Family

You want to know how you earn the respect of my family?
You fight,
You endured,
You do not back down,
You never listen to the word no and there are no limits you won't exceed,
That is what makes you family in our eyes,
Not blood,
Not skin or bone,
The stubborn diehard strength only earned through years of outcastment and neglect,
Everyone in my family has done and experienced this,
We are made up of amazon warriors and foreign soldiers,
We are weeping women and pissed off men,
We are the ancient monster hydra,
You kill one two grow back,
You don't piss us off,
You don't pick a fight with us,
And you sure as hell don't hurt us,
We will come for you,
There will be tears in our eyes, yes, but also fire in our veins,
We will get revenge, because that's what we do,
Very few believe in forgiveness and even few believe in redemption,
We hurt our own and we love our own,
Imagine what will happen when we don't love,
Family is overrated,
Until we need each other,
Then a family tree comes together to protect,
We protect our own,
Always.

I don't know if anyone outside of Austin has heard about the package bombings, but one of my cousins picked one up and...it's pretty bad. I don't want pity. This is just the story behind this poem.

Kisses for people that need them.
