The Rookie's Training Officer

Chapter 1

"Dolly, if we don't leave now, we'll be late for roll call." I heard Tim yell from the living room he was always so punctual.

" I'm coming, babe just a minute," I answered while doing last minute check of my hair. I left the bathroom and made my way to the front door.

"My turn to drive Bradford, so we're taking my car." He smiled,

"Nope, you drove last ." I huffed playfully as we approached his truck and got in. We've been together for almost ten years, and we've been married for 7, so to say I am in love with this man couldn't even begin to cover it.

Arriving at the precinct, we kissed each other good luck for the day and made our way to our respective locker rooms. I instantly made out one of the new rookies by the tie and long sleeves. I walked and found Lopez

"Hey, girl." I greeted

"Sup Dolly, you excited " I smiled

"I do love rookie day. It's like Christmas and the Purge in one....and there is my first present," I say, making my the over to the rookie, Chen, according to her nameplate

"Good morning Boot." I smiled politely

"Goodmor-" she started, but I interrupted

" I am sorry did I tell you to speak ...you better pray you don't get me as your T.O. Boot 'cause I'll make your life a living hell," I said, wearing my best mean face, which I've been told is scary as shit. But she smiled at me in return.

" I would love to have you as my training officer I am sure you could teach me a lot." I looked at her plainly

" Roll call in 10"

"Yes, Mam." She replied,

10 minutes later

"Alright everyone settle down and take your seats," Sarge said. Tim, Lopez, and I found our seats next to each other as Sarge turns to the rookies, "We have some new blood and some pushing the expiration date." He says motioning to the oldest rookie I've ever seen. "Stand up... after six months in the academy you have earned the right to be here but you'll have to prove yourself to stay. The way we do things matters. Protocol and tradition are the medals in which L.A. cops are forged do you understand." He finishes followed by three Yes sirs" Sit down .. it's time to play the training officer match game. Our contestants are Lucy Chen made her first arrest before clocking into work today, Legacy Jackson West broke all his father's records in the academy, And John Nolan who was born before Disco died. Then there are our Training officers. Officer Tim Bradford you get the hot shot, Officer Lopez you get our Legacy, leaving Officer Dalia Bradford with our 40-year-old rookie. Now hear me today's your first day. Don't let it be your last. Forget the Academy and listen to your TOs to teach you the way it is supposed to be done. That's it" We all started getting up to leave "Be safe out there" he said "Officer Bradford, I need a word with your rookie" Both Tim and I stop "Dalia" he clarifies

"Yes, sir. " I respond before leaving to retrieve my gear.

" So what did the Watch Commander want," I asked bluntly as Nolan finally caught up

"To wish me luck." I looked him straight in the eyes

" Boot, this relationship is going to get off to a bad start if you lie to me."

" Sergeant Gray does not seem to be a fan of my presence in this department," he said bluntly

" Because you're old as hell? Look I don't care how old you are I just wanna make sure you're not gonna be a waste of my time and tarnish my perfect record."
