I WAS ALWAYS ASHAMED TO TAKE. SO I GAVE. IT WAS NOT A VIRTUE. IT WAS A DISGUISE.

SHELLEY ST JAMES had always been a dreamer. For as long as she remembered, she'd been daydreaming about her future, about the ivy-walled school she would study in, about the bigshot journalist she was finally going to become, about leaving behind her small town. She walked through cloudless dreams and worked her way to the top until finally that acceptance letter fell into her hands and she was off, waving Stars Hollow behind her. Their golden princess was gone. No longer would she weave between their gardens humming dreamy tunes and holding a stack of books to her chest. She was gone, and as soon as her car turned the corner out of their little town, they were sure never to see her again. Not while the world revolved around the perfect fantasies playing in her head.

But dreams are not real life. And real life is anything but perfect.
