Chapter 6

"Wake Up Initiates," Tobias yells while banging on the railing.

I didn't really sleep last night. I was furious, to say the least.

I jump down from my top bunk, to see a really annoyed Peter.

"Hey 'bunk buddy' it's time to get up." I say sarcastically as I sit down on his bed, to start lacing up my shoes.

"5 more minutes" He groans hitting me with a pillow.

"Okay, whatever, don't come crying to me when Four or Eric comes to wake you up." I say pulling my jacket on.

"Fine" He grumbles, clearly annoyed. I walk to the bathroom and look at myself in the mirror. I haven't done that in a while. I notice I'm a lot thinner, and have definitely matured. I quickly braid my hair and head out.

"Peter, I'm going to breakfast." I say coming from behind him. I must he looks way better in Black then in Blue. "Are you coming with me?"

"Yeah, lady's first." He says gesturing to the door.

"Oh, such a gentlemen." I sass walking out of the sleeping quarters.

"So how'd you sleep?" He asks rubbing his eyes.

"Never better." I lie through my teeth.

"Wow cause I slept horribly."

"Well, I guess Erudite spoiled you. That is the softest bed I have ever slept on." I tried to remember the last time I've even slept on a bed. Marcus would always throw me in the closet when he was done with me.

"You could say that." Peter says as we turn the corner to the dining hall. Tobias is standing right in front of the door. "Would you like to talk to your sister alone?" Peter asks Tobias.

"Yes." My brother says bluntly.

"What says I want to talk to you?" I retort.

"It's been 2 years Evelyn. I'm talking to you whether you want to or not."

"That's not my name." I growl at him.

"Yeah it is, Mom gave it to you." He snaps back.

"Yeah well where is she now?" I say looking him in the eye. "Gone, she left us with him." I spat.

"It's not her fault she died." He says getting annoyed.

"Well it got worst after she left. And it got worst after you left." I couldn't even try to hold my tears. "You see these." I says taking of my jacket revealing the scars. "He made me count every lash by marking it on my body." I spat. "I have a total of 114 on my arms." I pull my jacket back on. "You came to Dauntless because you think you're brave. Think again, you're a coward. I AM THE BRAVE ONE IN THIS FAMILY." I yells through my tears. I lift my shirt revealing another scar. "This is from the day you left. He use the emergency fire axe." I let my shirt fall back in place. "I stitched myself back together. YOU COWARD." I scream at him. He stares at me in shock not knowing what to say.

"Four, you're already messing with the Initiates." I hear a cold voice say from behind us.

"Eric, this is my sister."

"I know we've met." I can hear the smile in his voice. I see the shock in Tobias' eyes, and I take advantage of it.

"Yeah, Eric and I completely hit it off." I say smiling and interlacing our fingers. Eric looks down at our hands and back at me. I smile at him and move my eyes towards Tobias.

"Yeah, Evie is lovely." Eric says unlacing our hands and moving his hand around my waist pulling me closer to him.

"Eric just understands me." I say looking at Eric, than at Tobias. I see him clenching his jaw and the anger in his eyes. "Is something wrong?" I ask Tobias.

"He is a horrible man. He will hurt you." Tobias says threw his teeth.

"As far as I've heard you're the only man that's hurt her." Eric says pulling me in front of him. He looks at my lips asking for permission. I answer him by closing the gap between us.

As soon as my lips touch his, my skin tingles and I feel butterflies fluttering in my stomach. I've never felt anything like this before.

We pull away when we hear the dining hall door slam shut. "Thank you." I whisper to Eric.

"No, thank you Initiate." He whispers back. Before connecting our lips again.
