You know that golden heart necklace you gave me?
I still wear it. Strewn around neck, lying on my chest near my actual heart.
But these days it doesn't represent what it used to. It used to represent our golden love, warm, and never ending.
Now, when I put it on, it feels like a noose around my neck. Reminding me about how choked I felt by you.
I keep it on, because it helps me remember I never want to go back to you. I want to keep my heart golden. At least you gave me that much.
