If you choose a boy protagonist in D/P/Pt, Dawn will tell you how she and the professor spent four years in Kanto prior. In FR/LG, there is a lass named Dawn on the S.S Anne accompanied by an old man.
Keep in mind how FR/LG were released in 2003 and D/P/Pt were released in 2007...four years apart.
