Season Five, Episode Five

"God partner, I leave you for like two hours and you get yourself blown up." The snarky voice of Danny Reagan caught my attention the second I stepped out from behind the emergency room curtains.

I shook my head, adjusting my rolled up sleeves as I walked towards him. "Bloody hell you got here fast."

He shrugged. "Linda was on shift tonight, needed a ride to St. Victors, and then I heard about you and the kid getting into an accident." I nodded along, scanning the walls of beds for Jameson. "You alright partner?"

"Yeah I'm fine," I motioned to the bandages on my wrists that were overkill for the injury that I had. "Little burns, nothing to bad. Jameson got the worst of it."

"Yeah I heard. You see the guy who did it?"

I had to think about his question a few times, blearily blinking my eyes as I continued to look for Jameson. The adrenaline from the attack wore off by the time we arrived at the hospital, and I was more tired than anything else. I had a headache as well, and my shoulders hurt, but my concern was for Jameson in this moment, and catching whoever did this.

"Not much, dark hair, Jameson said he was taller than me, but I truly couldn't tell." My eyes locked on Jameson, and I made a beeline for the bed that he was sitting in. "Jameson." My voice was soft, and I frowned as I noticed the bandage wrapped around his arm.

He looked up at me, smiling just a bit as he did. "Hey Jett." I held my hand out to him, and he gave me his.

"Can we take it seriously now?" I asked, slowly pulling him to his feet and wrapping my arms around his shoulders. I pressed my face into his hair, holding him tightly, maybe to tight. "Are you alright?" I muttered under my breath, not wanting to let go of him.

"I'm alright babe, I'm alright." Jameson smiled up at me, before taking the smallest step back to look at Danny.

Danny had a faint smile on his face as he watched the two of us interact. "Alright, you talk to Renzuli or TARU yet?"

Jameson nodded. "Yeah, yeah, Renzuli's sending TARU to our place to set it up now."

"Good." Danny replies. "That's where you are staying until we find this guy."

I nodded in agreement with Danny. "Let's get going." Danny smacks my shoulder, and I want to protest, but I just nod. I let Danny walk away, sighing as I looked back down at Jameson.

"I've got to go with him." I smile, "I'm not sure when I'll be home, but I'll call and update."

Jameson nodded, looking obviously disappointed, but understanding at the same time. "I love you."

"I love you too." I pulled him in for another hug, holding him tightly as if I were trying to apologize for having to leave. I lifted my head, leaning down and pressing a firm kiss to his lips, sighing into him and wishing I could stay here in this moment with him.

When I pulled back, I let my hands linger on his, before I finally turned away. Danny was waiting by the Emergency Room door for me, a tight lipped smile on his face as he watched me have to say goodbye to Jameson.

"There goes my heart." I mutter when I reach Danny, and he nods, telling me that he was sorry. "Let's catch this bastard."

"Couldn't agree with you more Partner." Danny said, leading the way out. When we reach the car he motions to the back row, and I notice a duffel bag sitting there. "I brought you clothes."

"Thanks Danny." I mutter, pulling the passenger door open and taking a seat inside.

For the first time I was glad that Danny was driving, it gave me the chance to doze off on the way to the precinct. Though I never got fully asleep, it let me relax just enough to feel awake when we reached the house.

"I'm gonna need a cup of coffee," I muttered as I climbed out, grabbing the duffel from the back row as I did.

"Make a pot?" Danny asks, and I just nod as a response.

The night shift were the only souls inside the precinct when we walked in, the silence was strange. The only sounds coming from the ever so often slamming of doors and the radio going off as I brewed a pot for Danny and I.

He took it with cream and sugar, and I took it just sugar, and by the time I reached the desk Danny already had already spread the files across the desks between his and mine.

"Anything on the phone?" I asked, handing Danny his cup of coffee before taking a sip of mine.

"Nah, any threatening voice mails or text messages came from a disposable." Danny said, handing me a few sheets of paper.

I sighed, "Little G said he preferred to scare her in public, stalking with a bloody personal touch." I set my cup of coffee on the desk, plopping into my chair and frowning as I scanned the pages in my hands.

It was quite between the two of us for a minute, I was reading the transcripts of the twisted voice mails and messages as Danny  continued to look over the other phone records. I propped my head up on the desk, my eyes looking around at the brick-a-brack that I had. A picture of my aunt and I, an old picture of me and my parents, and a little stand for my business cards.

My eyes linger on the business cards. "Wait wait wait." I reach for one of my cards, "If the guy knows Jameson from his card, he must've had to touch it right?"

Danny considers it for a minute. "You're a genius kid."

Him calling me a kid threw me off, but I thanked him for the compliment. Danny grabbed his desk phone, dialing the number for the property clerk, and for the first time I was actually happy for the night shift sticking around and being so fantastic.

"They're running it for prints now." Danny says, setting his phone back on his desk.

"Good." I yawned despite the caffeine, leaning back into my chair a bit more and letting my eyes fall shut.

It'd be a few hours before they came back with information for us, and I think I deserved a little more shut eye.
