so here's a poem called crystals :) i seem to be really sticking with this whole boys-are-like-inanimate-things theme lol hope you enjoy
---
you were
multi-faceted
like the crystals
that hung from
the bracelet
you gave me
for my birthday
that one year
when life was
good
you shimmered
your soul
shimmered
like a gemstone
pure and shiny
though your
smile
was always
bittersweet
your words
tinged with
sadness
a multitude
of rocks
were strewn
across that
beach
we walked on
together
and you picked
one
up
and chucked it
into the ocean
"what sets
crystals
apart from these
rocks?"
you asked me
as if my
answer
would be satisfactory
though nothing
i ever did
was
to you
"i think it's that
crystals
shine
when the sun
hits them right"
i replied
you shook your
head
brown curls
blowing
gently
in the wind
"no"
"what's the
right
answer?"
i asked you
you smiled
"figure it out
for yourself"
so i did
long after
you broke my
heart
and i left
long after
i forgot
the feeling of
sand between
my toes
and the taste of
salt
in the air
long after
i stopped
comparing you
to crystals
and started
likening you
to stones
the kind that
drag you down
and drown you
i realized
as i fell in love
with another man
my best friend
as he slipped a
diamond
onto my finger
that nothing
sets crystals
apart from
stones
except for
perception
and once mine
changed
i realized that
i had been
holding a
real
crystal
in my hands
the whole time
