Michael follows Tommy back to the main path, visibly vibrating with tension as Tommy let them walk in silence. He's clearly waiting for Tommy to say something, but Tommy has no plans to. He wants to go back and rest first, see his son and process the day.
"Where are we going?" Michael bursts. Tommy turns to deadpan, not responding. They're only a few hundred metres from Niki's now. Michael looks away from Tommy's gaze, suddenly a lot more interested in his surroundings. They breach the treeline and Niki's cottage comes into view.
"We're here," Tommy says sarcastically, gesturing at the house. Michael nods awkwardly.
"Oh my god, where were you!" Niki says, rushing from the house. She looks distressed, but Tommy is too tired to care. He never really got a chance to process what happened in the clearing. All he really wanted right now is his son. He wants his son, he wants his son to be happy and healthy again, he wants his son to come into his bedroom to wake him up at ungodly hours in the morning, he wants his son to be back in the village, away from all these familiar strangers. He wants Raelyn and Alex, who know, even if they don't really. They'd know how to help him. They'd make him feel better.
"Tommy!" Niki calls after Tommy as he walks into the house, leaving the door open for Michael behind him. He turns when he doesn't hear footsteps behind him. Michael is hovering awkwardly in the doorframe, looking unsure. Tommy gestures him in with a sigh. Michael is quick to come and stand by his side again, like an excited puppy. Tommy tries not to let it get to him how much he acts like Isaac.
When they reach Isaac's bedroom, Tommy immediately goes to sit by Isaac's side, wiping back his sweaty hair. Only a few more days and they'll be out of here. Meanwhile, he'll tell his story to someone he vaguely trusts so that he can leave knowing somebody understands his struggles.
"So," Tommy asks. "What do you want to know?"
"Why?" Michael asks. "Why, and, what?"
And Tommy spills over.
