P.S. The end confrontation is this chapter eekkkk, I really hope you enjoy this as much as I have lmao

The Cauldron was still a tip, no one having time to clean it post-possession, MJ trying not to get mad about that. Who would have? The staff had basically been told to stay clear until Vincent cleansed the air, and it was partly her job as the elder, but she was a little occupied;

-        Breaking the sire line.
-        Helping her best friend give birth.
-        Not being pregnant herself.

A quick hand wave and everything slowly flew back together, stains from blood and spit and spilt coffee evaporated into nothing. Crushed croissants floated into a garbage bin as MJ texted Hayley and Sam on mass. Desperately hoping to give them the heads up that they needed to hide before opening the back door into her untouched office.

"Mira," Maci took it in, "You..."

The vampire couldn't step inside the space, but she could see the investigation maps across each wall, string connecting ideas, scribbles crossed out. Perfect organised chaos.

"So this is what the internet looks like."

"In non-binary format," MJ muttered, "Um – "

Her heart was the key ingredient.

And her friends were now in danger because of her.

They always had been. The white oak had cut into Klaus's back because he'd held her life above the thousands of people tied to his.

"Plan," MJ grabbed the things she wanted, "To remove a branch over the whole thing."

Her middle ground.

The best of all worlds.

Save the people she cared about and drive a wedge down the middle of The Strix. Able to use the first attempt as proof she could do it, giving The Sisters the fake unbinding spell to turn that wedge into a massive gauge

'The baby can take it.'

There was a horror movie MJ had seen. A few used the same concept. Where it was one look – one read of a curse – one voice message, and everything was over. The supernatural enemy would latch onto the side characters' minds, killing them in increasingly demented ways until only the main remained. The final girl. Leaving her to outsmart it. Or subvert the title and die herself, showing just how hopeless and bone-shakingly terrifying its demon was.

Was she the final girl?

Or was what she'd initially dubbed herself to Kol all those years ago?

A footnote in the long and winding story of The Mikaelson's.

The side character who couldn't stop seeing the twisted smile in the mirror, the possessed chanting all she could think about. The baby could take it. That baby must die.

"The binding ingredient."

"We're not using your heart," Maci stressed, "Davina said – "

"That Kol killed her root to kill her spell," MJ recited, "Think about all your own points about Kol."

"...He was leading her further astray," She assumed, "By getting her to focus on the wrong thing."

"If Davina thought she had the right ingredient, she wouldn't actually find the right one," MJ agreed, "Because she was going off all my nature research."
