Old Wood

The wooden floor-boards creek in desperation,

wood-rot will ultimately end them, and you will fall through.

They weaken in the long years of dusty neglect,

turning grey and withering slowly over time

as they lose their shine and roughen in their age.

Carpet covers their lonely baren sight,

hiding them with disgust,

and water and dirt pools beneath the woven fabric,

causing even more damage to the unseen wood.

It used to be so vibrant, so lovely,

full of lush, beautiful, rich color.

It used to be so new,

but now, even the light seems to hurt it.

Even the light seems to cause it harm,

causing it to wither more,

to weaken farther,

so that it will finally,

in the end,

break.
