We left the studio and were walking back out to the gardens when we bumped into Kriss,

"Sorry." She muttered, not looking up

"Kriss." I said. She looked up and seemed surprised to see that it was me who she ran into. "Like I said earlier, I still want to stay in contact. Okay?"

"No. I'm fine without that. I don't need a constant reminder that the person I love is in love with someone else." She said coldly

"Kriss, I'm sorry." Maxon admitted "But honestly, would you actually like being married to me when I still love America? I think you would hate it everyday because I wouldn't share the same feelings for you as you feel for me. Please don't stay hung up on me. The are plenty of other guys out there that you would be happy with. You'll find the one. I promise. I-"

"No, Maxon. I don't get it... she was cheating on you right after you told her that she was your choice. How did you change your mind knowing that? I would never, ever cheat on you"

"That's not the point." I cut in "Besides, Maxon and I have sorted everything out."

""Kriss, at the end of the day, the Selection was my thing. This was one of the few things that was completely my choice. I chose who left, I chose who stayed, and I chose my wife. Believe it or not, I don't always get a choice." Maxon explained

"Whatever." Kriss started to storm away "but don't call me crying when you catch her stealing kisses from that guard in the halls. Call Elise or Celeste because I'm not being a second choice... Not again." Maxon turned to face me

"She hates me America." He said

"She doesn't hate you. She's just upset. Give her time" I reached for his hand

"I feel like all I've been doing is giving you girls time."

"You have but this is different. This time isn't being spent while you try to decide who to marry." I told him "because that's me." I smiled

"Yeah. It is." Maxon said and stole a quick kiss

Maxon and I walked down to the gardens and sat peacefully on our bench. He put his arm around my back and we just talked.
