ROSEANNE

"You should have never been born." Victoria looks down at me with disgust.

My legs are folded underneath me and I have to look up to see her face as it morphs into annoyance. The parts of my legs that the socks do not cover are pressed against the cold floor, and I fight the urge to squirm as another girl presses me down with her shoes.

"My parents love me," I mumble quietly as if to reassure myself that her words were a complete and utter lie.

It had to be a lie.

My parents did not hate me.

Did they?

"Awe, did you hear that, Vicky?" The other girl, Leyla, laughs. "Mommy and daddy tell her that they love her. How cute." She brings a hand to her heart in a mocking way.

I look down in sadness.

Tears threatened to fall.

But I hold the urge to cry.

I have to be strong.

"Newsflash, honey, they don't." Victoria leans down and grabs my jaw in a tight hold as she forces me to look at her. I try to shake off her hand because of the nails that are piercing through my skin, but she only tightens her hold on me, making the nails dig deeper. "How can they love someone as worthless as you?" She questions. "I sure wouldn't." In one swift movement, she lets go of my jaw and my head knocks against the locker behind me creating an echo through the girl's locker room.

Immediately, I feel a tingling sensation on the back of my head.

"Does your arm still hurt? Scott really did a number on you." She pats my arm slightly, making me flinch.

The moment she sees me flinch, she chuckles.

"Don't worry. I won't break your arm." She smiles as she glances at her nails with a bored look. But then she suddenly stops smiling and a gasp escapes my lips at the look on her face.

"I'll just break you."

The moment my eyes open I feel my throat burn and I bring up a palm to cover my mouth, but I'm too late, the tears have started.

"It was a dream." I choke out a sob as I fist the sheets.

My body shakes and I look around my room in fright.

Only the shadows accompany me in my terrors.

As they always would.

I bring a hand to the back of my head.

But there is no pain.

"I'm safe." I shiver.

"Nothing happened to me. It was all a dream." I keep on repeating as I cry.
