The Guardian

Chapter 13

"Oh my god" I whispered in shock. We stood at The Brotherhood gates. Our entire army of assassins. We'd trained impossibly hard and planned to risk our lives today. For this. I stared in horror at the sight of The Brotherhood Headquarters burning before our eyes. This is all my fault.

"This is a dream" I squeezed my eyes shut and clenched my fists until they hurt.

"Rose" Fane squeezed my hand. I held back my own tears as our brothers and sisters let out desperate cries behind us. I turned around slowly to face them all.

"The odds haven't been in our favour, but we won't stop now. Not after all of this. The fires only caught the gym building. We have about ten minutes until the fire spreads. With all of us together, ten minutes is all we need. No mercy. We fight together. Now lets go!" I ran straight into the brotherhood grounds, an army of assassins following behind me in an angry blaze. I wasn't as brave as I pretended to be. Not even close. But I had to be the guardian that my creed needed me to be.

As expected, Fraternity assassins ran out to meet us. They spread out in a very intimidating formation as they charged towards us. I quickened my pace despite the fear that clawed at me. I dove straight into the advancing patrol and slid out my double blades. I felt no emotion as I cut them down, one by one. The people I'd once trained with. The people I'd once considered friends. Not now. Now, they were the enemy. And I wouldn't stop until every last one of them dropped dead.

"On your left!" Zayne slid beside me, putting years of training into a blow that knocked down three assassins.

"On your right" Raven smirked at me and took out approaching assassins.

"Watching your back!" Chris landed behind me and took down the enemies that began closing in.

"Always here" Fane flashed in front of me and threw his sword, cutting through the huge assassin that threatened us. I couldn't have asked for more than this. I had the best people in the world fighting by my side, risking their own lives for me.

"This is gonna slow us down" Fane grunted as he flipped overhead.

"He's right! we should head inside" Zayne suggested.

"I got his Rose. Go find that bitch" Stone fought with twenty assassins by his side. I nodded and turned to face Raven.

"You, Chris and Lydia check the guard towers and clear out the wall"

"On it" Raven nodded and started turning away.

"Be safe" I pulled her in for a hug.

"You're hugging me!" She squeezed me back excitedly. I laughed into her shoulder. I now regretted being so reserved towards the ones I cared about. I vowed to myself that I would change that if we survived this night.

"Kick ass" I smirked.

"You too" She laughed and started across the courtyard with Chris and Lydia in tow.

"You and Trey take the top floors" I nodded at Zayne.

"Do I get a hug too?" He smiled hopefully. I stepped into his arms and laughed.
