"So now Mommy has her own house in the city," Sunny explained with a grave expression, "and I will get to go visit sometimes."
"So you have two houses now?" I questioned, sitting cross-legged on the floor of her room. "And two rooms?"
"I guess so," she shrugged. "But I can still go to school and see my friends, so that's okay."
I fidgeted with the strings on my hoodie. "Can I come play at your new house sometimes?"
"Silly, Finch!" she giggled. "Of course! It wouldn't be any fun without you there."
I allowed myself to breathe more easily.
"You have to hang up some more stars on the ceiling there," I reminded. "We can make some new constellations!"
"That's a good idea!" Sunny gasped, running to grab a yellow marker. "I need to make a list of ways to decorate my new room."
I sighed contentedly, sprawling out on the floor. Outside the window, the snow was beginning to melt.
Things would be better soon.
Maybe Sunny's parents wouldn't shout so much anymore.
Spring was coming.
