Cypress (flower): Death; mourning.
~

When my oldest brother died, everything seemed to stop suddenly.

The air stopped feeling fresh, the sun stopped feeling warm, the leaves sprouting on the trees after winter stopped seeming like rebirth.

Everywhere I looked, there was death.

Death in the silence of the house, death in the darkness of the night, death in the fallen leaves and bare branches during fall and winter.

There was no life. At all. I searched and searched and searched but found no life. I found beating hearts and breathing lungs and moving bodies, but no life.

Everyone just seemed to be a living corpse.

The walking dead.
