"Hi, you must be, Alana." A lady with red hair says to me once I walk up to the front desk.

"Yes indeed."

"I am Kristen, your boss here at the country club. Here follow me.." She leads me into the kitchen area. We stop once we arrive next to a teenage boy with brown curly hair.

"This is Chris. He is going to be working here with you so he'll be showing you the ropes. I gotta get back to work, but if you have any questions, feel free to ask me." Kristen says before walking away.

"Hi, I'm Lana." I say to him.

"Pretty name. I'm Chris, nice to meet you."

"You too." I say with a smile.

After showing me around the kitchen area, I have become pretty familiar with where things are located.

"I take it you worked here last summer as well." I say to him. It's obvious he knows like everything about this job.

"Yeah and the summer before that."

"Nice."

"You know, I don't think I have seen you around before Lana. I take it you're new to town or something?" Chris asks.

"Yeah me and my mom moved here from Virginia a couple days ago so I am going to be starting my senior year in the fall."

"Ridgewood?" He asks.

"Yeah."

"Wait that's so cool, that's where I go. I'm a senior too."

"Thank God, I finally know someone going into senior year."

"Yeah it must've been hard moving here in the middle of highschool."

"Yeah but I'll make it work. I always do." I say.

"Do you have any family here?"

"Yeah, my cousins who are actually seniors at Ridgewood as well."

"What are their names?"

"Vicki and Michael Martin." Chris' mouth opens up into the shape of an o and he stays silent.

"You don't like them?" I ask.

"I just don't have the best experience with Michael." Chris explains.

"Oh me neither. It's hard to get to know him. I'm close with Vicki, just not him."

"Yeah he's kind of known to be a stuck up douche." Chris says. He then hands me a bag of cups to re stock.

It's been five days now since I have started working at the country club and everything seems to be going well. I have started getting more comfortable and more familiar with everything. Chris has been a big help, he's so sweet.

"You got this customer? I have to go re stock the half and half from the coffee station." Chris asks me.

"Yeah I got it." I turn around to help the next customer when I am face to face with one of the most attractive guys I have ever seen. Stop, Lana, that is rude to think when you have a boyfriend. But I can't help it... The guy is tall with fluffy brown hair and green eyes. He's with a group of his friends too.

"Are you going to take my order or are you going to continue staring at me?" He asks which causes all of his friends to break into laughter. What a jerk. Normally I would retaliate however I realize that he is the customer. And the customer is always right.

"What can I get you?" I ask, trying to ignore my anger.

"She finally speaks!" The guy says, "I'll take a shirley temple and an order of fries." I fill up his drink and hand it to him.

"The fries will be coming out soon." I tell him. Instead of saying thanks, he just walks away. What a dick.

"Boo!" A voice says, breaking me out of my thoughts. I jump a mile in response.

"Why so jumpy?" Chris asks.

"I don't know but I just took some guy's order and he was a total dick." I say, annoyed.

"Yeah some of the people here are not the most patient or the kindest.."

"Clearly."

"Well who was it?" I look outside, scanning the area for the jerk who didn't even have the decency to say thank you. It isn't long before I spot him, sitting down laughing with all of his friends. I point over to him.

"Who, Tyler Clark?"

"I don't know his name, but it's the guy sitting down with all his friends, drinking the shirley temple."

"Yeah that is Tyler Clark. Why are you so surprised, he is a designated jerk."

"Because I am not from this area." I say as though it's obvious. Well, it kind of is because we literally already talked about this.

"Oh yeah, I forgot about that," Chris begins, "Well don't take it personally, Tyler is like that with everyone. He goes to Ridgewood and he is like amazing at football which I guess makes him think that he can treat everyone like they're trash." I internally groan once Chris says he goes to Ridgewood.

"Ugh he goes to Ridgewood." I say with a sigh.

"Yeah which means you'll be seeing a lot more of him. He also comes here like everyday to hangout with his friends so get used to seeing his face." Great, this is going to be an amazing summer!

After my shift, I grab my phone from the break room.

"What are you doing tonight?" Chris asks me.

"Nothing besides sleeping. Who knew filling up sodas could be so tiring."

"Well what are your thoughts on going to a party?" He begins, "A girl from Ridgewood is throwing it. You should think about it."

"Yeah I will." I lie. I definitely won't be attending that. I am too tired to party.

"I'll see you Lana." Chris says with a smile.

"Bye Chris."
