As days went by, you noticed a subtle change in the Driver's behavior. He seemed distant and lost in thought, and you couldn't help but feel worried.

One evening, as you sat together on the couch, you asked him what was wrong.

"It's nothing," he said, but his voice lacked conviction.

You took his hand, searching his face for answers.

"Please, tell me what's going on," you pleaded.

The Driver sighed, then looked at you with a pained expression.

"I saw someone today," he said. "Someone I used to know."

You felt a wave of apprehension wash over you as he spoke.

"Who was it?" you asked.

"It was Irene," he said, his voice barely above a whisper.

Your heart sank as you realized what this meant. Irene was the woman the Driver had been in love with before he met you. You had heard about her before, but he had never talked about her with such emotion.

"How did it go?" you asked, trying to keep your voice steady.

The Driver looked at you with a haunted expression.

"I don't know," he said. "It was like a flood of memories came rushing back. We talked for a while, and it was like we were back where we left off."

You felt a pang of jealousy, but you tried to push it aside. The Driver had a past, and you couldn't fault him for that.

"What are you going to do?" you asked, dreading the answer.

The Driver looked at you with a conflicted expression.

"I don't know," he said. "I thought I had moved on, but seeing her again...I don't know if I can let her go."

You felt tears welling up in your eyes as you realized that you might lose the man you loved to his past.

"I understand," you said, your voice shaking. "But just remember, I'm here for you, no matter what."

The Driver looked at you with a mixture of sadness and gratitude.

"I know," he said, taking your hand. "And I love you for that."

The next few days were tense as the Driver struggled with his feelings. You tried to be supportive, but you couldn't help feeling like a third wheel in your own relationship.

Finally, one day, the Driver came to you with a heavy heart.

"I've made a decision," he said. "I'm going to try to make things work with Irene."

You felt your heart break as he spoke the words.

"I understand," you said, trying to keep your voice steady. "I just want you to be happy."

The Driver looked at you with tears in his eyes.

"I'm sorry," he said. "I never meant to hurt you."

You hugged him tightly, feeling the weight of the loss pressing down on you.

"I know," you said, your voice muffled by his shoulder. "I'll always love you, no matter what."

The Driver hugged you back, his body trembling with emotion.

"I love you too," he said. "I'll never forget you."

And with that, he left, leaving you alone with your broken heart and shattered dreams.
