Vanessa

I finally nodded, making my decision.

"Okay." My voice was voice barely a whisper. "I'll help you."

"Thank you," he murmured, voice thick. "I promise, I'll do whatever it takes to keep you safe."

I furrowed my brow. "What if they try to use this against us? To control us?"

His gaze hardened as he looked around our cage, taking in the cold metal walls and the eerie glow of the energy barrier. "They won't have the chance. I won't let them hurt you."

His eyes searched mine. I could see the doubt there, the fear that still lingered despite our decision. And so, I did the only thing I could think of– I reached out, gently pressing my hand against his chest. The electric current that passed between us at the contact was unexpected, but wasn't willing to let go.

"Your heart is pounding," I said, my fingers splaying against his hot skin, feeling the rapid thrum of life beneath them. "Are you scared, too?"

"Of you? No." He shook his head, his gaze never leaving mine. "But I am afraid of what I might do to you if I lose control."

"Then don't hold back," I murmured, entranced by the vulnerability that flickered in the depths of his eyes as I leaned closer.

He let out a low growl, filled with restraint and longing as he took a step back, putting distance between us. "You don't understand what you're asking of me."

"Maybe not," I admitted, my heart aching for the tortured soul who stood before me. "But I'm willing to learn if it means we can face this nightmare together."

He looked at me, his expression conflicted before his eyes softened, the intensity of our connection undeniable.

His restraint snapped and he closed the distance between us, his hand coming up to gently cup my face. His touch sent a shiver down my spine, and I leaned into it, craving more contact.

Our eyes locked, and unspoken words passed between us: desire, longing, need.

His gaze flicked down to my lips.

"Please," I breathed, heart pounding. I wanted his lips on me.

With that one word, he closed the remaining space between us. His lips found mine, and a jolt of electricity shot through my body, igniting a fire that burned through my veins. The kiss was passionate, hungry, as if we were trying to consume each other.

Our tongues danced together, exploring and tasting. I melted into his embrace, fingers tangling in his dark, unruly hair. He pulled me closer, one hand on the small of my back while the other gripped my hip possessively.

"God," I gasped against his lips, drowning in the intensity of our connection. "You feel so..."

"Amazing," he finished for me, his breath hot on my skin. "I've never felt anything like this before."

I couldn't help but agree – whatever this was between us, it was powerful, overwhelming, and undeniably real. All I wanted was to lose myself in his arms.

The heat of the moment ebbed as our lips finally parted. I struggled to catch my breath.

His chest rose and fell against my own, his eyes locked on me with a thrilling intensity. It was as if he was staring straight into my soul, seeing everything I had ever been and everything I could become.

"Vanessa," I offered softly, realising we hadn't even exchanged names yet. "My name is Vanessa Persaud."

"Draug," he replied, the corners of his mouth lifting slightly in a faint smile. "Draug Varg."

"Nice to meet you, Draug." I couldn't help but return his smile, despite the situation we were in. There was something oddly comforting about knowing his name, as if it brought us closer together– made us more than just two strangers thrown together by fate.

"It's been more than nice to meet you," he murmured, his thumb gently tracing circles on my hip as we continued to hold each other close. "Vanessa."

I loved the way my name rolled off his tongue.

For a moment, we simply stood there, lost in each other's gaze. But there was a pain lurking behind the gold of Draug's eyes, like a dark cloud threatening to swallow up the light.

My heart clenched at the sight. "What's wrong?"
