Lucy Cleven was born in Lemmon, South Dakota on the 29th September 1920. She was one of many siblings, but her favourite by far was her brother, Gale. They were the two closest in age and wherever he went she wasn't close behind.

Growing up Lucy would play a lot of pranks on practically everyone. Meanwhile Gale was her scapegoat. He would simply sit back and watch her perform her antics, and if she ever got caught he would always be there to save her, to get her out of trouble.

However, when they both outgrew the pranks they had to search for something else do to. Something else to became great at.

So when Gale picked up the local newspaper that was urging many young boys to enlist in the airforce and military he did his research, and so did she. The pair of them slowly, but surely became rather invested in planes. Particularly bomber aircraft's and fighter jets.

They vowed to each other that when the time came they would fly together in B-17 bomber.

That was until he enlisted in the U.S air force to became a pilot. He was sent off to boot camp rather quickly leaving her alone in South Dakota. He wrote Lucy often talking of the numerous friends he had made and how hard the training was.

The only consistent thing in his letters was the constant mention of his best friend, John Egan. He talked about how he was no longer known as Gale but was known as Buck, thanks to the efforts of John Egan, who liked to call himself Bucky.

The letters were a funny reminder of her older brother but she couldn't shake the thoughts of flying in the sky's out of her head. So when the war against Germany was declared she knew that know was her time.

She would have to work twice as hard as any man who wanted to became a pilot, but if she was the best then who was going stopping her from flying?

So that's what she did. Lucy Cleven became the best at boot camp. She quickly earned her own nickname of Lucky. Considering she always managed to land every plane in any conditions with only a few minor scrapes and bumps.

After nine months filled with twelve hour day training sessions she made it. The word came that she was going to be deployed to the 100th bomb group in Thorpe Abbots. The same bomb group as her brother. However this time she kept it a surprise.
