Fairies have been in literature for quite a while. Ranging from Arthurean legends to Shakespeare's plays, fairies have played an important role in the fantasy world. Here are some of the works of literature where fairies have played their part.
A Midsummer's Night's Dream is about four lovers cross-stared lovers who escape into the forest. However, the other side of the forest two fairies, the Queen and King fairies argue over a page-boy. The Queen refuses to give him up so the King sends his servant Puck to go look for a magical plant to cast a spell on the queen. What happens after that is a lot of misdemeanors and confussion are created among the characters, situations that are mostly created by Puck, the fairy.
Sandman is an American Comic Book series. The Sandmand is Dream or Morpheus and basically it's about a fantasy world. However, there's a fairy in the comics by the name of Naula.
The Legend of King Arthur. Morgana Le Fay. Although retellings have changed her, Morgana Le Fay means Morgana The Fairy, so it's very possible that Morgana started out as a fairy.
The Wizard of Oz series also has a character that came from fairies. Her name is Ozma, who's Dorothy's guarding angel. It was said that she came from the fairies.
Cinderella's fairy godmother, is yes, a fairy.
