Hi! So I kind of forgot the half-cliffhanger I left Chapter 9 on, so I decided to create a filler chapter. You learn a lot about Marek in this chapter, but for the rest, I just wrote it for fun/practice. Enjoy, comment and vote!

"Hello? Who is this," a gruff voice asked through the telephone.

"Check the caller ID, idiot," I replied impatiently. That boy could be quite dumb at times, and it was probably this most annoying asset.

A pause could be heard through the phone, "Didn't think you'd ever call Alessa," he observed playfully. "But I offered, so its only fair that I don't hang up." I laughed through the phone and when I quieted down his tone turned serious, "Couldn't sleep could you?"

"No, how about you?"

"Me neither," he assured. I was thankful not to be alone. "I can't believe you went back there," I added, only now realising that when I sent him home, I sent him back to his brothers, "I should've let you stay."

"It's fine. Really. They aren't as bad with me, I'm used to it," he assured. His tone turned playful once more when he added, "Oh darling, are you worried about me?"

"Sugar plum," I replied, mimicking his tone. "Aren't you worried about me?" When I heard his laughter, all I could do was laugh along with him.

We conversed long past five in the morning, about everything from our scarring childhoods to our grades.

"Really?!" He chuckled. "You got a 46% on that last bio test. Even I got a better score."

"Oh yeah?" I challenged. "What?"

His laughter died down and mine flared. "I got a 52%," he answered, embarrassed.

"See! I told you the teacher was being too harsh. No one was going to actually read the six chapters she assigned."

"I actually did," his voice was even quieter. I gasped into my phone, then I started to laugh, first quietly but steadily growing louder.

"The—Football Captain—is a—biology nerd!" I managed to say through my laughter. I could practically feel his blush from across the phone, which only amplified my laughter.

"Ok, to be fair, I'm not just a biology nerd. I quite like all three sciences," he explained. "Tell anyone and you're dead."

I kept laughing, and soon it was time to get up and go to school. Marek was still on the phone, but at this point I had to charge my phone three times to keep the call going. I lay my phone with its rose gold case on my dresser and kept talking while I picked my clothes and did my make-up. With a silver scrunchie, I pulled my hair into a ponytail.

Marek had to go shower and I had to make breakfast, so we cut the four hour and twenty one minute call off, agreeing to meet up at my doorstep.

Cheerful as ever, I made myself a sandwich and made my way outside to wait for Marek. His sleek black car stood parked outside my house already, with his muscular body leaning against it. His hair was still damp from the shower and it made me want to—don't think that.

An uncontrollable blush crept across my cheeks. My attempt to sneak past him was largely ignored when he grabbed my waist and twirled me round, so I landed with my chest pressed against him. His eyes were playful, but sincere, "How are you?"

I laughed mirthlessly, "Seriously?"

"I know. I know. Will you be okay though?" He responded, still sincere.

I muttered a 'yes' and he released my waist, at which I was slightly disappointed. He got in the car and turned up the radio to avoid an awkward silence settling. It wouldn't have either way, we were talking the whole twenty minute car ride.

I saw what I concluded to be Marek gushing about his science-obsession. He had apparently read an article about blood types and decided it was factually incorrect in certain fields, and although I tuned out most of his rambling, I found it sweet.

His eyes lit up a little and his left hand would leave the wheel to make dramatic gestures. A smile would stay on his face the whole time, something awfully rare. The discussion strayed to me several times, but Marek did not bring last night up, so neither did I.

But I was still very glad it happened.

Hope that was satisfactory :) Comment and Vote!
