Quebec is a gorgeous place.

So I've heard.

On account of my tendencies, my parents haven't allowed much travel for my brother and I- to keep things fair, of course- but when we road the train into Quebec province nearly 4 days after leaving Alaska, I was awed to see what Canada had to offer.

The trees were higher than any I'd seen in Alaska. They towered above all the buildings you could barely see in the distance. As we got closer, though, the trees died off and were replaced by the buildings that had looked so small a few seconds ago.

Humans killing things. Don't be surprised by that, it's in their nature.

I ignored my wolf and put my hand on Jade's shoulder, shaking her gently to wake up. She had slept for nearly half of our trip and when she was awake she occupied herself with smoking in the bathroom, reading horrible magazines, or talking to me about things I didn't want to talk about.

I think she forgets how different we are.

"Jade, we're almost there."

She moaned in her sleep and gave me the finger before snuggling deeper into the seats. I sighed and went back to the view.

What a view.

"On Dope, No Hope! On Dope, No Hope! On Dope, No Hope!"

"Make them stop that fucking chant before I break their windpipes," a still tired Jade whispered into my ear. I smiled at her politely and glanced towards the teenage do-gooders who were protesting the marijuana consumption at their school.

"At least they're trying to do something nice for their community."

Imagine what would happen if Jade was let loose... That would be fun to see her-

Shut up.

"Being in a big city like this isn't good for me," I pulled Jade closer by her arm," I can feel every crime, every death, all of it."

"You're being dramatic. We'll just find Lovelie and get the hell outta compton, alright?"

She didn't give me time to reply and instead went towards the nearest gas station. I trailed after her and entered in time to watch her waltz into the snack aisle. There were many kinds of treats in this aisle. She grabbed something called a Mr. Big and gestured for me to choose something as well.

Most the wrappers were bright and shiny, I suppose they are supposed to attract the attention of children so they could convince their parents to buy them something sweet and fattening, but to me it looked kind of gaudy and strange.

The last time I was at a gas station, my father was with me. An old man had stopped to see the beautiful little girl with her handsome, young father and tried to do the very polite thing and introduce himself to me. He had said something about my dad being too young and it made me a little confused and slightly annoyed. I couldn't have been more than 5 but I knew the origins of my and my brother's birth.

When he shook my hand he fell to his knees in pain. My eyes had changed to a deep purple while I watched him feel everything my small form could impell upon him.

"Eve, Eve stop," he looked at me with fear in his turquoise eyes," Eve, we have to go home. Let the man go."

I had let him go and we went home. That's the last time I was on an outing outside the Jade Forest. Alpha Mike never even allowed me to join the rest of the pack with their usual jobs because of this incident.

Jade must have gone off to get drinks because the next thing I knew she was punching me on the arm and handing me a bottle of Coke. I snapped out of my revere and grabbed a packet of trail mix.

"Ready to go?"

"Yeah," she smiled playfully," Are you paying?"

I started to frown and reach for my wallet when she told me she was kidding and we headed towards the cash register. The only employee working was in the back, mopping up the mess he had made with a coffee dispenser. Jade glanced around to see if there were any cameras before pulling me out of the gas station.

We quickly went down the street. Jade pulled up a map of the city on her phone and punched in Lovelie's address.

"Why did you do that? We have the money?"

"Why pay if you don't have to?"

I can't say I really understood her logic, but she didn't really give me an option. The next thing I knew we were on our way to Lovelie's house and I was wondering if I asked the right cousin to come along to help me keep myself from being dark.
