No these are not groceries.

I think swear words are kind important to know if you're an intermediate/advanced learner and like to travel to Hispanic countries bc first, you wanna know if you're being called a bitch or something. Second, everyone swears. Everyone. No matter what language you're speaking. And thirdly, it's helpful if you want to express yourself if you're really excited or really frustrated.

However it's kinda tricky in Spanish because there are soooo many regional differences. For example in El Salvador, bicho means dude, in the Caribbean it means dick and everywhere else it means bug. Confusing right?

Here are some (hopefully) more universal swear words:

Mierda - shit

Joder - fuck

Coño - pussy/fuck

Chingado (Mexican) - fuck

Coger - in some places it means to pick up in others it means to fuck

Cabrón - literally means male goat but in slang it means bastard

Puta/puto - bitch or whore (ex: hijo de  puta = son of a bitch)

Coño - pussy or fuck/damn depending on region of world

Culo - ass

Pendejo - dumbass

Pinche - you've probably heard this, it's used like "fucking" in Mexican slang. It isn't used outside of Mexico I don't think (ex: mis pinche hermanos son tan molestos = my fucking siblings are so annoying)

Pregunta del día: Si tienes una grosería en tu país que te gustas, comentarlo!
