Chapter Sixteen: Welcome to the Stars

"you really know how to make me cry
when you gimme those ocean eyes
I'm scared, I've never fallen from quite
this high, falling into your ocean eyes,'

I watched Sophie with amusement, noticing how her hair—which was now styled naturally—bounced with every jump.

"I feel like a kid again!" She shouted while crunching her legs when she slammed her feet harder on the surface.

"You sure as hell look like one," I drawled out, smirking before turning so my back was to her. She'd gotten on the trampoline five minutes ago, and since then, she hadn't stopped giggling like a child.

We were at Sophie's parents house now. On Monday, after my talk with Meredith, Sophie explained once I opened my front door that she followed me home. First explaining that she wanted to check on me, but later admitting that she wanted to extend the offer on coming to her parents house the upcoming Friday.

I wanted to deny the invitation instantly, but then I remembered Sophie's mom, Melanie, who I had yet to see since I got back to town months ago.

"Monica, honey?" I heard her voice, breaking me from my thoughts as I looked away from my feet.

Tilting my head up, my eyes locked on the same pair of forest green eyes Sophie fashioned. When I noticed her smiling brightly, I couldn't help but allow my lips spread into a smile as well.

Melanie Williams had pale skin and dark brown hair that almost looked black. Her naturally frizz-free hair ended just under her collarbone, and I couldn't help but notice now that Sophie got her petite nose from her mother.

"Would you like a kabob, sweetie?" She asked, crossing her thin arms as a chuckle left her. "Darius is making a lot, since Jax loves them, so he wants to know how much he should make for the rest of us."

"Hey, I don't eat that much!" I heard Sophie's younger brother shout from the sliding door leading to the house.

When I looked over Melanie's shoulder, I saw the twenty-one year old leaning against the doorway, glaring in our direction. But when our eyes met, his expression instantly changed as he smirked. Within seconds, he pushed himself off the wall and strolled toward us, standing next to his mom soon after.

Deciding not to give him attention right now, I looked back to Melanie. "I think I'm gonna stick with a burger," I smiled, brushing my bangs to the side as much as I could. "You know I'm a sucker for those."

"Of course," she smiled sadly. "When you didn't come late to the diner for milkshakes, you and your brother would enjoy our famous burgers."

I grinned. "They are famous for a reason."

I heard the trampoline continue to be used behind me, until all there was was silence. "I'm offended for our pizza," Sophie said from behind me, and when I turned around, I watched as she slid off the trampoline and onto the grass. "They are top tier."

"Sure," I rolled my eyes as she walked forward so she was standing closer to me. "Greasy food is the best thing ever. What could compete with that?" I drawled out sarcastically, causing her eyes to narrow on me as she crossed her arms.

"I know you're being negative because of your aura," she scrunched up her nose. "It's brown."

That made me grin. "You know I love brown. Guess me being negative is meant to be."
