Starting off the season, I could tell just from the preseason tournament that I had a couple young players that would be good. A few of those names include Regan Charles-Cook, Ross Stewart and Coll Donaldson.
However, we didn't have a ton of depth but the first position where I looked for more help was the striker spot. Besides Ross Stewart who was rated at 65, the next two strikers we had was 61 overall rated Oli Shaw and 63 overall Billy McKay.
The way we had our formation and tactics set up called for more a target man type striker so that's who I looked for.
Eventually I found the perfect man, Adebayo Akinfenwa from Wycombe Wanderers. Still going at a ripe 38 years old, he was rated 65 overall and his physical stats were monster. The downside was that FIFA loves to give old players slow pace which irked me a little but I'd deal with it. I swapped one of our younger players who had no face for him and paid an additional £40,000. He had an instant impact for the first game he started. Like mentioned before, we didn't have a ton of depth so when the second game came along, I had to put Stewart at left winger and Adebayo up front. He scored two goals and assisted a third.
We won the preseason tournament, beating MSV Duisburg by one goal scored by Regan Charles-Cook. This gave us a nice little cash boost before the season started. I made a rule to myself where the the board would allow two players from central/south America in order to boost popularity.
I looked though the free agents and brought in midfielder Christopher González from Peru. The first game of the season was against Celtic and in a surprising turn of events we actually managed to win 3-1. I was feeling great but upon further analysis I saw that they played a weaker which is why we were able to win.
