A unique love language

Sporadic dashes of love,

Forgetful gestures of affection,

Covered in kindness.

I see unrequited love,

One not easily extinguished,

Passed from generation to generation.

I see a healthy relationship,

Many years of bliss and hardship,

Trained for a medal of honor.

Lost in each other's eyes they sit,

I am indeed blessed,

Blessed to see the seasons.

To see love as it translates,

Even in confusion,

Even amidst empty interactions,

Within their eyes.

Even amidst stumbling words,

And empty dialogs,

They stand.

A tired man with dementia.

An Alzheimer's ridden woman.

I saw the morning sun,

The coffee he brewed willingly,

Setting it at the foot of the table,

From their youth.

I saw the good morning kisses,

How he awakened his beloved,

Every morning without fail.

I saw the morning sermons,

The preaching filled with affection,

The evening ice-creams after service,

He constantly bought,

Indulging his wife's sweet tooth.

I saw the shift of a generation,

The passing of the torch,

The withering of one,

Giving way to another.

The same love,

Taught by my grandfather and grandmother,

Was same love taught to me,

By my father and mother.

I am blessed to witness.

Love filled with imperfections,

As everything is,

But full to the brim,

With genuine warmth.

I see in them what I wish to be,

As a man.

What I wish to achieve,

As a spouse.

What I could only hope to be,

As a human.

I see a love,

That transcends all,

Even though,

Lying right next to each other,

Their words barely carry weight.

This is in fact,

A unique love language.

One which amidst,

The undefeatable hands of time,

Between lifelong lovers,

Is understood wholeheartedly.
