The beautiful woman across the road

I, head-down, eyes-down, walked through the town

but my head and eyes lifted at a certain scene.

I diverted my attention,

completely to the elder generation.

A woman with frail grey hair,

you could tell that it was thinning,

but she made every effort to look beautiful,

and she was.

Bright red lipstick on, highlighting the perfect curve on her lip,

a beautiful tight red coat,

outlining the shape of her hips.

Her thinning hair shined, perhaps it was hair spray,

she had carefully brushed through each strand.

I tried to picture myself with grey thinning hair,

I tried picturing me as a beautiful old lady,

I couldn't see anything.

To the beautiful old woman across the road,

I hope I grow to be like you,

a woman who has faced every obstacle every day,

and still remains beautiful.
