Masuda village is located deep within the Kyushu Mountains, surrounded by four prefectures. The village has roughly 100 inhabitants. There are 7 high school students, 1 junior high student, and 3 primary school students. There are 2 infants of pre-school age.
The language is varied, possibly due to trade between the four prefectures, but it is closest to the Miyasaki dialect and is spoken in a relaxed manner.
There is no internet signal, so all phones and even computers are useless. They live a pre-historic lifestyle based on self-sufficiency, with only a few household appliances in use.
Electricity is provided by a generator at the general union office at the foot of the mountain. However, the lights are switched off at 22:00 (10pm). Telephones, televisions, etc. aren't installed in each house, but are shared by all.
The title image* is not of ghosts, but of a group of villagers wearing a unique fashion style called "Yamidare".
