Salubong ang kilay ko nang tingnan si Hellios sa mga mata. He was staring straight into my eyes like he didn’t say something unbelievable.

“Remember what I told you before? Don’t say anything unless you mean it. I might misinterpret that, Hellios!”

He raised a brow at me, giving me a smug look.

“I did mean whatever I told you. Seryoso ako, Chloe. I want to marry you. And if you’d ever say yes, I would gladly marry you tonight.”

Hindi ako nakasagot, natulala sa kaniya. Umawang ang labi ko bumilis ang ritmo ng puso. Hindi siya seryoso, ‘di ba? Seryoso nga daw, Chloe! At ang sabi, kapag um-oo ka ngayon, ngayong gabi rin ay pakakasalan ka niya!

Dinala ko ang palad sa noo niya at sinalat ito. “Are you okay, Hellios?”

He chuckled and tigtened his hold on my waist. He even nuzzled my neck and continued chuckling there as if he found my question funny.

“My baby can’t believe it, huh?”

Iniyakap ko ang mga kamay paikot sa likod niya at itinuon ang noo sa balikat niya.

“Marriage is a serious thing. Sabi nga nila, ang kasal ay hindi parang mainit na kanin na pag napaso ka, iluluwa mo na. If you wanna marry me, you must be sure about me. That I am the woman who you want to end up with. And what’s with the rush?” I laughed softly.

“Hindi ko alam kung ilang beses ko na sinabi sa’yo kung gaano ako kasigurado pagdating sa’yo. Maybe it’s still not enough? Or you’re not taking my words for serious whenever I say them to you?”

I sighed when I heard the sulkiness in his deep voice. “It’s not like that. Naisip ko lang parang ang bata pa natin-”

I was cut off by a low groan. Tumunghay ako, gano’n rin siya. Nagkatinginan kami at busangot ang mukha niya.

“I’m already twenty nine and you are twenty six. Ilang taon pa bago mo ako payagan na pakasalan ka?”

Ngumuso ako. “Ang bata pa kaya no’n!”

Hilaw siyang natawa. “Really, huh? If I have met you when you were still eighteen, I would have surely asked you to marry me!”

“Bakit ka nga kasi nagmamadali?”

Huminga siya nang malalim at iginilid ang ilang hibla ng buhok mula sa pisngi ko.

“Honestly, I don’t know. I just want to secure you. I’m afraid not to be the man for you. I know I’m still not worthy of you, Chloe, but I want to fight for my spot in your life.”

Bahagyang nagsalubong ang mga kilay ko. “You don’t have to fight for your spot anymore, Hellios. May lugar ka na sa buhay ko at hindi ‘yon basta-basta matatabunan.”

“Sa ngayon, oo. Paano sa mga susunod na buwan… taon?”

Natawa ako. “I don’t get you. Where are you coming from?”

He breathed out, lowered his head and stared into my eyes again. Nagkibit-balikat siya.

“I don’t know either. Siguro ay natatakot lang talaga ako na mawala ka.”

I smiled and stroked his jaw downward. “Hindi ako mawawala kung wala kang gagawing dahilan para mawala ako. It all depends on you, Samael.”

“How sure are you that it will be on me?”

I smiled and moved closer to give his lips a feathery kiss. “Because I would never leave you… I am not planning to.”

Pumungay ang mga mata niya pagkasabi ko no’n. He bit his lower lip that made it become redder. Bumaba ang mga mata niya sa labi ko. He tilted his head and kissed me.
