Friday arrived, and Norman strode into the office kitchen with a newfound lightness in his movements. As he busied himself making a cup of coffee, Sam, noticing Norman's uncharacteristic buoyancy, couldn't help but inquire. "Hey, you look very happy today. Any good news?" he prodded; his curiosity piqued.

Norman turned to face Sam, his expression a blend of happiness and mild surprise. "You won't believe me, last night I saw Jessie at the LRT station."

Sam's eyes widened with curiosity as he leaned in, a glint of excitement in his gaze. "Really? That's awesome! Did you talk to her?"

Norman grinned, nodding eagerly. "Yes, I even gave her a lift back home!"

"You must be kidding me, tell the truth!" Sam exclaimed, disbelief lacing his voice.

"I'm telling you the truth. We both sat in the last train, and she couldn't get a bus back to her apartment, so I sent her home," Norman explained, a sense of satisfaction in his tone.

Sam chuckled in response, nudging Norman playfully. "Oh man, this must be fate!"

As Sam's enthusiasm rose, he couldn't help but press further. "Did you manage to get her number? Did you ask her out?" he prodded, eager for more details.

Norman's expression shifted, a trace of disappointment clouding his features. "No, I didn't. I only gave her my card," he admitted, a hint of regret evident in his voice.

Sam let out an exasperated sigh and shook his head. "Come on, man! What are the chances she's going to call? You should have asked for her number! You could have set up a coffee date or something," he chided, his frustration palpable.

Norman's shoulders slumped, knowing Sam was right. He had missed a prime opportunity, and now the chance to take things further felt like a missed train. As they both sipped their coffee, the weight of his missed chance lingered in the air.

Just as the atmosphere started to feel heavy with disappointment, the sound of Tracie's cheerful voice effortlessly cut through the tension. She entered the pantry, bringing with her an air of warmth and positivity. Tracie was dressed casually, sporting a knee-length dress that was perfect for a laid-back Friday. Her attire exuded a relaxed vibe that was only enhanced by her radiant smile and easy demeanour.

With grace, she reached for a cup from the top cabinet, revealing a glimpse of her thigh as her dress playfully shifted. The subtle hint of her bare leg added an air of allure to her already charming presence. It was as if the room itself brightened in response to her arrival.

Sam, always the playful tease, couldn't resist a cheeky nudge to Norman. He leaned in and whispered, "Stop regretting that missed train, dude. You've got another golden opportunity right here. Ask her out!" Norman's initial annoyance was evident, but he couldn't help but crack a small smile at Sam's relentless persistence. The playful banter between the two friends continued as they watched Tracie with a mixture of admiration and intrigue.

Tracie's bright eyes sparkled with curiosity as she caught onto the playful exchange between the two men. "What are you guys whispering about?" she inquired, a mischievous glint in her eye.

Sam, never one to miss an opportunity, quickly chimed in, "Oh, it's nothing. Norman here was just saying how he'd love to take you out for lunch!" His playful grin widened as he teased, knowing full well the effect his words would have on Norman.

Norman, feeling his cheeks flush with embarrassment, playfully punched Sam's shoulder, retorting, "Don't listen to him. He's just talking nonsense." Tracie let out a soft laugh, aware of Sam's playful nature and understanding the harmless banter.

With a warm smile, Tracie gracefully placed the cup in the coffee machine and pressed the button, the machine humming softly as it prepared the steaming brew. Turning back to Norman, her expression took on a more professional tone as she asked, "How did the code debugging go last night? Any progress?" The atmosphere shifted slightly as the conversation veered towards work matters.

Norman, momentarily transitioning into a more serious demeanor, nodded. "Yes, I managed to identify the issue. I'll have it fixed by today and will update you by noon." His eyes met Tracie's, conveying a sense of determination and assurance. The brief exchange spoke volumes of the mutual respect and professionalism shared between the two colleagues.

As Sam excused himself to take the call, the atmosphere in the pantry settled into a quiet calm. Tracie, her coffee in hand, approached Norman, her expression slightly more serious than before. "Did you hear the rumors?" she asked in a hushed tone, her voice carrying a note of concern.

Norman, caught off guard by her question, furrowed his brow. "Rumors?" he echoed, his curiosity piqued. A sudden thought crossed his mind, wondering if Tracie was referring to the false rumors Sam had been spreading about him and her. His unease grew as he tried to decipher the context of her words.

Tracie nodded, her eyes reflecting the weight of the news. "Yeah, about the two projects getting scrapped? It seems the losses in Q3 were even worse than in Q2. Headcount reductions coming soon," she revealed, her voice laced with worry.

Norman's surprise was evident as he absorbed the gravity of Tracie's words. His mind still grappling with the earlier mischievous conversation, he attempted to focus on the serious topic at hand. "How do you know this?" he inquired, his tone a mix of concern and disbelief.

With a slight sigh, Tracie leaned in closer, sharing what she had heard. "I heard it from a friend in HR. They've been discussing it behind closed doors," she explained, her gaze conveying a sense of urgency. "We should start looking for other opportunities," she suggested, her words hanging in the air with an air of uncertainty. The gravity of the situation weighed heavily on both of them, the once-lighthearted banter now replaced by a shared concern for their professional future.

After the brief exchange with Tracie, Norman excused himself and made his way to his cubicle, the weight of the looming rumors still nagging at his mind. As the day progressed, he found himself constantly checking his phone, hoping for a call or a message from Jessie. However, the hours passed by uneventfully, and soon it was time to head home.
