Chapter 34

Two weeks had passed. They had taken Meredith to surgery after the news and it seemed like it had worked out. They had cut out as many mets as they could, partially removing Meredith's stomach and many other things. After two weeks she finally seemed to be doing a bit better again

Derek was absolutely wrecked. Maddie has been extremely busy, missing her mom so so much as she couldn't visit as much

He was currently walking through the halls with Maddie, they were on their way to see Meredith. He hadn't seen her yet today as Maddie had thrown a fit which ended into the little girl crying for over an hour in her father's arms

"Maddie, wait!" Derek said, hurrying after her but it was of no one, the little girl slipped inside as the door was still open. "Maddie!" Derek sighed completely exhausted

"Hey sweetie!" Alex smiled as he picked up the tension

"Mama!" Maddie didn't listen

"Mad-" Meredith weakly stirred

"Let me lift you and place you next to mommy, how does that sound?" Derek suggested and lifted the little girl into the bed, seeing Meredith's eyes lit up

"Mommy! I missed you sooooo much!" Maddie hugged her mother from the side, Alex quickly made sure Maddie couldn't hurt her mother

"Der-" Meredith weakly called out

"Hi Mer." He smiled and carefully kissed her forehead, still unable to realize him and Meredith were back together

"You look tired.." She frowned. "Sleep."

"I will in a bit." Derek tried to ease her

"Go now. I got Mads." She tried again, wanting Derek to look after himself

"I'll help out if needed, Shep." Alex assured him

"Thanks." Derek nodded. He kissed both girls' foreheads and hesitated to leave

"Go. We'll be fine." Meredith assured

"See you. And page me if you need me." He said and left

"Now Maddie, maybe you and mommy should watch some tv and nap?" Alex suggested, seeing how Meredith weakly wrapped her arm around her daughter for both their comfort

Another two weeks had passed by where Meredith got the last rounds of treatment before her, hopefully last, scan

"Mommy, when will you finally come home? I miss you." Maddie asked as she and Meredith were playing a bit with some of her dolls

"Soon, honey. Soon." Meredith said, her body getting tired from playing with her daughter in the big bed

"I don't want you to stay in the hospible." Maddie muttered sadly

"Me neither honey, but I can't come home yet." Meredith sighed sadly. "Lay down, sweetie. We can cuddle a bit longer while you tell me what we're gonna do when I come home." Meredith said and opened her arms, little Maddie scooting in her arms

"I wanna go to the zoo. We can go see the el-phants, I love them. And watch monkeys with Nanas. We gotta show Nanas aaaaaaall the monkeys." Maddie explained, hugging her stuffed monkey against her chest

"I bet Nanas will love that." Meredith nodded, feeling her eyes get slowly tired

"And we then go play on the pwaygwound! And daddy will push me suuuuuper high on the swing!" She giggled enthusiastic

"Oh really?" Meredith muttered, her eyes slowly closing

"Yep! And then we go eat ice ceam! Lots and lots of ice cweam!!!" Maddie's eyes went wide but got disappointed as she looked at her exhausted mother

"Good.." Meredith nodded

"Mommy?" Maddie stroke her finger over Meredith's face

"Hmm?" Meredith nodded, unable to open her eyes again

"I just want you to be otay." Maddie hugged her mother tight as they both started drifting off

Derek slowly walked inside Meredith's hospital room. He had done a surgery earlier because no other surgeons were available

He quickly tucked them both in as it was quite chilly. He made sure Meredith's bald head was also covered up and took a seat next to her, holding her small and pale hand in his big hands, wanting to keep her safe and happy

He placed his head down on the mattress, drifting off slowly as he was just happy to be with his daughter and his now girlfriend

"Night night, my girls. I love you." He quickly kissed Meredith's shoulder and laid his head down, drifting off almost right away

Meanwhile Alex was watching them from the hallway. He smiled at his friends

"Hey, is she asleep?" Bailey walked up to Alex

"Yeah. Derek just joined them. Bailey.. I really hope this is it. It will be hard enough for her already to adjust to her new body and her new way of life." Alex sighed, knowing his best friend would have a long and intense recovery ahead of her

"I know. Poor girl didn't deserve any of this." Bailey sighed sadly a she watched her former intern lay down in the big bed, almost disappearing into the white sheets
