I didn't feel bad for what I had said to her. At one point it felt like I was trying to state clearly to her that even if Markus was to get married to another woman that wasn't me, she wasn't qualified to be my child's mother. She failed big time.

I stopped the car when the lights became red. I knew Markus complained about me going out but that didn't mean I was going to listen. I wasn't a prisoner.

The lights turned green and I drove forward. Rena was seated beside me in jeans and a white top.

" Did I tell you you look very beautiful in this outfit?" I said to her as she turned to me with a smile. I saw the blush on her cheek and couldn't help but smile.

" Thank you, ma'am." She said as she had her eyes on the road. I've been meaning to talk to her about calling me ma'am, it makes me feel old. I could tell we were not too far off when it came to age.

" Jane," I said as she turned to me in confusion.

" My name is Jane, you can call me Jane when we're together, but if you wish to you can call me ma'am when we're not alone, just because I don't want you getting into trouble." She looked like she was going to argue but decided against it.

" Come on, try it." I encouraged.

" Jane." She whispered and that made me giggle, how could calling someone's name be so hard?

" And one more thing, I hated the way you always wanted to say something but shut up like I am going to scold or hurt you, it's okay to give me your opinion, don't always agree with what I say, if you don't like it tell me. Because if you don't tell me I'll never know how you feel. Okay." I said to her and she just nodded her head.

" Where exactly are we going?" She finally gathered the courage to ask.

" We're going to the orphanage ." I simply replied.

When we got to the building, I parked my car somewhere and got out. I was happy to be seeing the kids after not seeing them for a very long time.

As soon as I opened the door and a few of them caught sight of me, they rushed to me in glee as I went down to catch my little favorite. Mimi.

She came into my arms and gave me a big smile. I could tell this smile was intentional. The last time I came here she had a missing front tooth but now they've grown back.

" Wow see who the tooth fairy blessed with a brand new tooth." I smiled as I squeezed her cheek.

The older ones surrounded me as I stood up with Mimi in my arms.

" Who is that lady?" One of the older kids asked as he pointed toward Rena. Oh someone just found his crush.

" That's Rena, my friend,." I said to them as Rena gave them a friendly wave.

" Hi, I'm Charles." He said as he brought his chest out wanting to appear stronger I couldn't help but chuckle. Rena took his hand and his face turned red. Oh my gosh, he was so cute.

" So guys, guess what?" I said to them as they all looked up at me expectantly.

" We're going to have an ice cream party!!" The yell that followed that announcement made my heart melt, they shouted in joy.

How could someone even think of abandoning such sweet kids? On instinct, my hand covered my stomach in protection. I would protect this child with my life.

I had already booked an ice cream truck that was to serve them ice cream.

The truck would be arriving any moment but before they arrived we needed to do some catching up.

I was told Sam the teenage boy got a scholarship and I was so happy about the news. Although I'll miss seeing him, he was progressing in his life which was a good thing.

I heard honking outside which indicated that our party was about to start.

" They're here. Let's all get settled so we can have our sweet sweet ice cream." I didn't have to tell them twice they were good and obedient kids, that was something I loved about them.

Their caregivers helped in serving them their ice cream and each of them was lost in their bubble as they happily took their ice cream. Now that I had enough money I knew just what I was going to spend it doing.

The money was meant for my mom but since it wasn't able to save her, it would bring happiness to other people.

We played games and had a lot of fun, Charles wouldn't leave Rena alone every little opportunity he had he used it to show his muscles, muscles he didn't have. It was fun to watch. The young dude was whipped.

I gave them another surprise by bringing them new toys and books and they loved everything. Each one of them kept telling me thank you and I received a lot of hugs. It felt like my life just got longer because of the happy smile that was on their faces.

" When are you going to come back again?" She asked with a pout on her lips like she didn't want me to go. It was clear she didn't.

" I'll be back soon honey. When do you want me to come visit you?" I asked her hoping that would stop her from crying, I knew she was going to start crying if she didn't get the assurance that I was coming back soon.

" I want you to come for my birthday." She said as she looked up at me with those starry eyes. Her birthday was like two weeks away. That was on the twenty-eighth of August, I could make it.

" Okay, darling." If her eyes could get any brighter it would.

" Really?" She said with a heart-melting smile.

" Yes."

I said goodbye to them and was happy that this time Mimi wasn't crying but it looked like she was counting the days to her birthday. So cute.

" You have such a heart of gold," Rena said as she sipped on her smoothie.

" And you sure have found a crush." We both burst into laughter.

" The kid just won't leave me alone, told me his dream of how he'll build a big house and treat his wife like a princess. He was just so cute."

" Really." I chuckled as I smiled remembering the happiness on those children's faces.

" Thank you for bringing me with you," Rena said as she gave me a genuine smile which I returned.

When we got home it was already 6:45 pm.
Just as I entered the house again I was attacked with the question I hated the most.

" Where are you coming from?"
