BABYMONSTER's JIA becomes viral among locals and fans are attempting to gatekeep her

Photos of BABYMONSTER's Jia have been circulating the internet and has catched the attention of more than just kpop fans.

After months of no activity, BABYMONSTER are about to release their first mini album as a complete 9-member group. On March 11, the visual photos of the members were getting released to promote the upcoming release and excite fans.

On March 15, Jia's visual photos were released. Right off the bat, the photo was being talked about all over social media among Kpop fans due to the change is style Jia had. Being known for her tomboyish style, fans were shocked and astonished by these photos. Jia is wearing thin strapped bra with a see-through top showing off her long torso and tiny waist.

Netizens showed mixed reactions as some praised the photoshoot and Jia's versatility, while others criticized the styling choice. But overall, fans were showering Jia with complements and expressed that they loved seeing this different side of her in BABYMONSTER that they didn't see in ENHYPEN. However, Kpop fans weren't the only ones talking about these visual photos for the comeback.

Ever since the Jia's songs got leaked in February, the "locals", as Kpop fans call them, have been paying more attention to her. "Locals" is a term used to describe people who are not in the alternative scene. These people are not Kpop fans, don't know anything about Kpop, and in some cases they don't even like the industry as a whole.

It started in TikTok where a post containing these photos went viral and people in the comments asked about the girl in the picture. Then other people who some didn't even know who Jia was, began posting Jia's visual photo to trends.

Seeing the rise in Jia's popularity among these locals, fans felt threatened and planned to gatekeep Jia. On Twitter when someone would post or reply to a photo of Jia and ask about her, fans would run to comment things such as: "Staff dw!" "She burned down a kids hospital because they asked her for donations, she's evil don't support her." "You can stop dreaming, she's gay so she'll never like you." "Nobody." "This girl is a menace to society, don't follow her. Everyone is trying to boycott her." "She's pours the milk before the cereal, trust she's not who u think she is." "This girl is actually from an underground group that disbanded already so she ain't even active like that." "She's staff, don't worry about it." "This is Juji from Blackpink!"
