Whenever I'm having a bad day, I'll go to the hill nearby the beach and sit on the bench with a book so I can escape from reality for awhile. I liked this bench as people rarely sit on it. It's like my secret hideout. It's so breezy and cooling and I have a lot of  privacy. This time when I arrived, I saw someone wearing a black hoodie with the hood over his head and a black SnapBack. I couldn't see his face as he was facing downwards.

" May I sit here?" I asked

This was my first time asking this question. I have never seen anyone sit here.

He mumbled something which I assumed was a Yes. I sat down and noticed that we were reading the same book. Hours passed and we just read and read.

After one hour, He finally closed his book but he didn't look up. He placed his elbow on the table to support his neck. I was wondering how he didn't get a cramp by looking down at his lap for an hour. Out of a sudden, a voice whispered softly against the wind,

" Why scars?" He whispered

I looked down at my arm which has lines after lines. I placed my hand away and replied,

" Problems."

" So you gave up your beautiful skin for scars? Just because you have problems?" He replied back

" What do you even know? Everyone has their own problems!"  I replied in a fit of anger

There was a moment of silence.

" Thanks for your time." I said while shoving my book into my bag while preparing to leave.

" Wait!" He shouted

He looked up and removed his hood from his head. He took off his black SnapBack to reveal his golden brown hair harmonizing with his beautiful hazel brown eyes. But there is something different about him. I slowly sat down and stared at him.

" Do you see this?" He said pointing to his face

" What... What happened to you?" I stuttered

" I have 2nd degree burns all over my face. These scars, are permanent."

" What happened? " I asked

" I saved someone in a fire so I got burned as a result ."

" So what about that person?"

" That person was safe and sound. But, I wasn't so lucky. In the end, everyone made fun of how I looked including the person I saved. Don't hurt your beautiful skin just for your problems or anything. Please just don't do it. Pain is temporary but scars are permanent."

His last sentence hit me so hard.

" It's not worth it." He said before walking off leaving me in deep thoughts
