I buried my hands deep in my pockets.

My head hung low, shoulders hunched, hands clenched into fists. Lily's voice was on a loop inside my head, ringing endlessly. The selfishness of it. The audacity. I approached Vic's apartment building, feeling the anger sear into my veins.

And that's when the building exploded.

My head jerked up to see the orange flames erupt from the building, shattering the glass and spilling out onto the street. For the longest moment, I was frozen, watching the golden embers drift down from above. My heart hammered in my chest, pulsing in my ears, beating against my brain.

And then the screaming started.
