She placed her two cards face down on the felt table and doubled the bet. Two men folded. The other man scrunched his nose at her. He didn't know if she was pretending. She didn't know anyone at this table. They were average faces without names.

In true life, she pretended to love one man and pretended not to love another. But at the poker table she wasn't pretending. She had pocket aces. And an ace came out on the flop. Her heart became pompous. The man took her for a fool and went all in. She went right back at him, pushing her chips into the centre of the table. When they revealed their cards he stood up, crossed his arms, and said 'you shouldn't play like that.' His Jack and Queen of clubs found no friends on the table. She had three aces. One might say it was one too many.
