Ivar was coming home from a raid. He was content. The raid was successful and now he was going back to his beloved wife, whom he married only a month before sailing away.

He got off the boat and looked throughthe crowd. Y/N was nowhere to be seen. He scanned the people more thoughtfully. Still nothing. He saw one of his personal servants approaching him.

-My lord – she bowed her head down so she wouldn't look him in the eyes.

-Where's my wife?

-She's in her chambers, my lord. She told to to ask you to come to her when you'll have time, my lord.

-Lead me to her.

Ivar ordered one of his advisers to take care of everything that needed to be done after their comeback.

He followed the servant and entered the space dedicated privately for his wife.

She was sitting on the floor, leaning over something. He silently crawled closer to her. It was a baby. She took it in her arms and stood up. Ivar remained still, frozen in his spot. Y/N noticed him when she turned around.

-Ivar, you're back. I'm so happy, I've missed you so much.

She kneeled down again in order to giveher husband a kiss, still holding a baby in her arms, but Ivar only moved away from her.

-What is this ?- he asked, disgusted.

-A baby. - Y/N answered, smiling at the baby.

-Is it yours?

-Of course not. I mean, I didn't give birth to her, but I was thinking that maybe we could keep her, raise her. - Y/N looked at her husband, hoping for him to agree.

-No way! Forget about it!

-But why, Ivar? Why not. Please, I beg you, Please.

He looked at her. The thought of living with a little stranger didn't appeal to Ivar, but he saw how tightly his wife was holding to it. He didn't know if she would ever bear his child. Even if it wouldn't be a problem for her now, it would worry her in a few years. She deserved to be happy.

-Do you want it?

-I do.

-But how do you imagine me as a father? This child will hate me.

-No, why would you even think that! I'm sure you will be a great father, just as great you are as a warrior or a husband.

She assured Ivar and gave him a kiss on the cheek.

-Where does it come from?

-Shortly after you left a woman came here. She asked for help, I think she ran away from someone or something. She was sick and about to deliver a baby. She died a day after she gave a birth. I decided to care of her – she looked at the little girl in her arms- I found a woman to feed her.

-Couldn't you do this?

-Of course not! I was not pregnant, my body is not able to feed a baby right now.

-Oh- Ivar nodded his head as if he knew it all, but in fact nothing of what Y/N was saying made sense to him.

-I've already started to get used to her. So what do you say, do you accept her as yours?

Ivar sighed.

-If that is what will make you happy.

Y/N screamed from the joy.

-Thank you, love. - she kissed all over his face.

-What's her name?

-I named her Borghild. So the gods would always take care of her.

Ivar put his hand carefully on the child's head and looked at her. He had never seen a newborn so closely before.

-Do you want to hold her, Ivar?

-I don't know if that's a good idea...

-Don't be ridiculous, Ivar. I will show you everything. But firstly take off your gloves and wipe your hands.

Ivar did all his wife told him to do. Y/N helped him hold the baby properly.

-See, she's comfortable in your warm embrace. She's yours Ivar. Ours. Our little ray of sunshine. - Y/N kissed the baby's little head.

She seemed so happy. And seeing his wife happy was all Ivar ever wished for.
