now on with the story.

The boy walked through the empty halls of the school towards the art room. Even though it was a Saturday, the office of the high school was still open. Austin was able to get into the school and to the art room. His hand hit the cold metal doorknob. His heart pounded in his chest. Although he was just going to see one of his best friends, he was still nervous. Nervous that Edwin and Dylan were, in fact, an item.

Edwin draped a cloth over the painting as he waited for the golden-haired boy. He was nervous. He hadn't seen Dylan to tell her what was happening today. Ed had the girl's number, but he didn't feel like texting her. She had no idea that one of her best friend's was about to reveal her feelings for her crush. Edwin didn't want to do this. It could totally backfire. Ruin everything that Austin and Dylan had. But he needed to do this. In the pit of his stomach, he knew that the two were meant to be.

The door clicked. Edwin looked behind him. Austin walked in. Their eyes met, "Hey!" A smile spread on Edwin's face. In that moment all his jitters vanished and he knew that he was doing the right thing. A mimicking smile fell onto Porter's lips as he nodded his head towards Ed.

"So why am I here?" Although this sounds a bit harsh, Austin's voice was gentle. Full of confusion and curiosity all at once.  As if it were possible, Edwin's smile seemed to stretch even more on his face.

"I made something that you need to see." He walked away from Austin to the painting. His fingers picked up the corners of the cloth. With one last deep breath, Edwin slipped away the fabric to reveal the same painting that he had previously shown Dylan on Tuesday.

Austin's eyes roamed the gorgeous painting. The contrast of each side shocked the boy. He was speechless. His thoughts crept in as he admired the art. The sides were too different. Like two different works. There was only one explanation. Dylan had to have helped with it. She had to have painted the girl. It screamed Dyl. But the other side really didn't scream Edwin. Austin just ignored that thought. "Wow, Edwin. You and Dylan did a great job."

Edwin looked away from the work to watch Austin's face. It was filled with pure shock and amazement. But then the words flooded out of the golden-haired boy's mouth. "We didn't paint this together Austin."

The two looked at each other for a brief moment before one looked back at the work. Austin's brown eyes stared at the girl's side for a second. Then they shifted to the boy's side. Back and forth. Until they landed on the boy's side. The side that didn't scream Edwin. Rather someone else. "But isn't that supposed to be you and her?"

The boy stared at him in disbelief. It was like Austin was clueless. This couple was clueless. Could they not really see they were meant to be? That they had feelings for each other? To everyone else it was obvious. But the two were just oblivious.

"Austin, that's Dylan," Edwin lifted a finger to point to the girl. It quickly moved to the boy's side. "And that's you."

There was an emphasis on 'you'. As the boy stared more at the painting, the realization kicked in. Dylan was the night. Quiet and mysterious. Full of secrets and possible mysteries. No one ever wanted to go out during the dead of night. He was the day. Bright and open. Everything could be seen. Adventures were evident in the day.

Austin couldn't believe what was in front of him. Everything was starting to click. "So you and Dylan..." His voice trailed off. His eye caught Ed's.

"No. She likes you Austin. That day she 'ditched' you. She was here. I wanted to show this to her first. The day we hung out we talked about you most of the time. SHe won't admit that she has feelings for you but it is fucking obvious."

All the golden-haired boy did was stare. From his best friend to the painting. Everything clicked. She loved him and he loved her.

"Shit." the boy mumbled as he looked over to Edwin. "What have I done."
