The whole pack shuddered at the sound of that howl. They could recognize the howl any day, anytime because it came with much authority as compared to that of other werewolves in the pack. They were all shocked to hear their alpha express so much pain but no one dared to go outside their home after hearing his howls because the last time they heard him howl with this level of pain was when he lost his younger sister. After that incident, Roy became cranky and aggressive, hurting anyone who dared to challenge him, the only person who could calm him was his uncle and father's beta, Alan. But his uncle also tried not to overstep his boundaries by taking chances when in his wolf form because his wolf would feel threatened and may end up killing him. So the pack members respectfully remained inside the pack house and their various homes feeling pity for their alpha.

Roy returned home by midnight. He walked into the living room and found Kimberly asleep on the couch with a tear-stained face. He wanted to hold her and kiss away her pain but he wouldn't. As much as his wolf wanted to, he wouldn't accept a human mate, a weak species whose heart belonged to someone else. As if to confirm his thoughts, Kimberly started to stir in her sleep like she was having a nightmare.

"Ian, please come back to me. I love you, please come back." He heard her murmur in her sleep. He growled in anger and walked out of the living room.

Kimberly woke up the next morning with a terrible body ache from sleeping on the couch all through the night. She frantically looked around when she remembered why she was in the living room in the first place. When she didn't spot him anywhere she quickly stood up from the couch and ran upstairs to look for him. Only when she got upstairs did she realize that she had no idea where his room was. She decided to check on all the doors that were upstairs because she wasn't willing to just quit the search.

Kimberly started to open the doors, one after the other. There were two plain rooms like the one she was currently in. She guessed they were all guest bedrooms but the next room she opened caught her attention. It was a beautiful bedroom with a feminine touch of pink, the bed was neatly dressed in pink sheets. Everything seemed to be in place, but Roy was the only one in this house as far as she could tell, so whose room could this be? She wondered taking a step inside.

"What are you doing in here?" She heard an angry yet familiar voice ask making her flinch in surprise.

"I-um, I w-was..."

"Don't you ever step foot in this room ever again!" He growled dragging her out of the bedroom and slamming the door behind her.

"I-I'm s-sorry, I was only looking for you. I g-got so s-scared when you went out there alone." she struggled to explain staring at her feet the whole time to avoid his angry gaze.

"Learn to mind your own business," he warned before storming downstairs leaving Kimberley in tears.

She knew she was to blame for his sudden behavior change and it saddens her. She should never have reacted the way she did towards him yesterday when all he did was try to help her. She would apologise for her awful behavior but the problem is how was she going to do that now?

Roy knew that wasn't the right way to treat his mate but he couldn't help it. He was upset with her because she didn't see him the same way he saw her, so how was he ever going to claim her as his? Besides that, humans were very picky and arrogant people. What would be her reaction when he eventually tells her that he is a werewolf and she is his mate? Would she even understand a word he would say? Was he ever going to tell her? He still couldn't bring himself to come to the terms that his mate was a human.

Maybe there was some sort of mix-up, or maybe his wolf was just being needy and decided to accept the closest person he saw as his mate. But then again, the moon goddess can never be wrong. The whole thing was driving him crazy. He took out his phone and dialed a number.

"Aunt, I need to see you."

Kimberly didn't bother having breakfast that morning nor did she shower, she just remained in her room not planning to annoy her host any further. She curled herself on the bed feeling terrible for everything that happened. Stray tears rolled down her cheeks as she thought of how messed up her life was at this point, all because of her stupid desire to make her lover happy. If she hadn't said yes they wouldn't be on good terms, that was a fact but at least he and his friends would still be alive.

At that thought she broke down in tears, when suddenly her crying was interrupted by a knock on the door. She quickly wiped her tears not planning to be seen in this state by her host. The door slowly opened revealing an unfamiliar face, it was a blonde woman probably in her early forties, she had a warm smile and a tray of food causing Kimberly's stomach to instantly growl.

Who was she? And what was she doing here?

                    Christine

And to think that just a second ago she had thought Roy was the one knocking maybe to apologize for yelling at her. What was she thinking? She should be the one to apologize for sticking her nose into what was no business of hers and for lashing out at him. That notwithstanding, he could've had the courtesy to tell her that someone was coming over. Kimberly's face dropped as she realized how badly she had messed up, now Roy was mad at her to the point that he didn't want to see her.

"You must be Kimberly, am I right?" The woman asked her warm smile not leaving her face. Kimberly only nodded not trusting her voice as her throat was dry from dehydration.

"Hi. I'm Christine, Roy's aunt... I'm mat-married to his uncle, so he sees me as his aunt." she explained, the word 'mated' almost slipping from her mouth.

"Can I see him?" Kimberly asked not at all noticing the correction Christine made, she was rather feeling a strong urge to apologize to Roy for venting all her anger on him and also for not minding her business.

"Oh.. um, he is in his study at the moment, which means he's busy and needs to be alone."

"Oh... Okay."

"Let's not worry about him, okay?... He told me what happened to your friends. I'm sorry about that." Kimberly broke down in tears after being reminded about what happened.

"Oh honey, I'm so sorry. I didn't mean to upset you," Christine apologized placing the tray of food gently on the nightstand and joining Kimberly on the bed. She took the young lady in a warm embrace as she cried.
