was it me or was it you?

Dedicated to those dreams,

I want to be a doctor,
but she said that we can't afford it
Medical school is too hard.

I want to be an artist,
but they said you copied that too
You can't do art.

I want to be free,
but they say you're too young for it
Where will you get money?

I want to be, oh nevermind-
I'll never be enough for that.

There are lot of things I'd want to be
but I couldn't because you keep limiting me.
I know I can but you say I can't
or was it you couldn't?

notes :

I still resonate with the pain that I have placed into this piece. It's been more than a year yet the feeling of not being enough and the feeling of detaching from what I love is a bittersweet ache to look back on. A teen, myself, and even anyone else shouldn't feel that way. No one should go through those thoughts of just giving up on what the want to pursue. No one should go through the feeling of free falling unwillingly. Pursue your dreams, do not give up on your dreams. Dreams are meant to be free so we can dream as much as we want and to do so one needs work harder. Aside our lack of necessities like money, we can work our way through it for as long as we have our hopes and faith in ourselves we'll find a way. We are unsure of tomorrow, so let's YOLO it because we can.
