Malohkeh rushes into the tunnel and hurries toward the largest sleeping chamber, stopping short when it looms in his sight. There at the door stands Restac, who holds her hand over the button to release all the warriors from their cryogenic sleep. The hand trembles as if she is unsure about her actions; Malohkeh takes this as his chance.

"That's not right," he says in his paternal voice, and Restac jumps violently. Because of the sudden movement, she presses the button by accident. "What are you doing?" Malohkeh demands, coming closer to her.

All hesitance is gone from Restac's face now. "Protecting our race against the apes," she answers, fierce.

"You can't do this!"

The military commander looks to her companion with disdainful pity. "You're a good scientist, Malohkeh, but this is war." Without a second thought she pulls out a gun and shoots Malohkeh in the chest. The Silurian scientist staggers backward, clutching at the wound, and slumps into the wall. Very slowly he sinks to the floor, and the last sight his kind, aged eyes see is thousands upon thousands of soldiers reviving from their sleep, marching forward.
