When I heard his voice my blood ran cold

When I heard his voice my blood ran cold. Don't get me wrong I'm not afraid of my father but there are times I know when to pick my battles. This was one of them. I had already seen this coming but his tune itself made me nervous.

"Uh...yeah," I said as I turned to face him.

As I glanced over at my fathers sitting figure I couldn't help but sigh. He was drinking and judging by the type of bottle it was it was pretty strong.

I wouldn't say my father is a heavy drinker when he's angry but I can't say he's a light one either. He would constantly come home drunk after him and mom split and break things. First it was things inside the house  like TVs but then he turned his fist onto the women he use to bring home. I remember being so scared hearing the glass shattering and screaming, but even when he would see me he would only falter for a minute. How pathetic right.

"Where have you been?"

"Out with a friend," I said as I walked into the kitchen.

"Dressed like that? Please try to come up with a better lie."

"I'm not lying," I said as I opened the fridge.

"Really? Why are you dressed like that then?"

I closed the fridge and walked over and took a seat at the island. I looked over at my father and ours met. I couldn't help but sigh because I knew he wasn't going to stop until I told him exactly where I was.

"They told me to dress nice so I did. Can you not make this a big deal when it wasn't."

He stood up, "it's not a big deal you say but If I'm correct you've been suspended from school haven't you?"

"Yeah."

"Not gonna try to hide it this time?"

I raised an eyebrow at this because for one I couldn't if I tried. They were going to inform him either way, so denying it would just make this worse.

"Why would I? You were going to find out one way or another."

He didn't say anything and just sat across from me. He sat his cup down and ran a hand through his hair. His eyes were dark and I knew that if I wasn't careful with my speech he would get angry fast.

"Do you enjoy wasting my money?"

"It's not like I tried to get suspended. It more or less just happened."

"You getting suspended is not something just happens, so just tell me what you did," he said calmly.

I was getting annoyed. This was the main reason why I don't try to argue my case. Whether I do it or not it's my fault so why argue with a man that won't listen. It's like talking to a brick wall and the more you talk the taller the wall becomes.
