"Sheriff Forbes was able to track down your car. I sent you the coordinates." Abigail walked out of the bedroom, eyes lingering on her favorite picture. "She tracked down the one they stole after it too, it's in Willoughby, Pennsylvania."

"Yeah, well, I don't remember that name from the list of places I got from New York."

"Well, they're there," she huffed. "So, you better find them before they get to the cure."

"Oh, silver lining: if Rebekah takes the cure, then she's mortal and we can just kill her right then and there."

"Oh, dark cloud: Elena stays a vampire forever." She pulled one of Alaric's sweatshirts over her head. "Look, just find Katherine, get the cure, and get out before you get your neck snapped. Again."

"Believe me, I learned my lesson. Elena without her humanity is a stone-cold bitch, and I won't trust her until we get the old Elena back."

"See, a neck nap really does change things."

"I'm sorry, Abigail."

"I know, Damon."

"I'm going to get her back."

"How?" She sat down on the couch, meeting it with a sigh. "She has an Original vampire as her bodyguard."

"I am gonna do whatever I have to do." He enunciated every word, making his point clear. "I don't care if Stefan and I have to throw Rebekah under a school bus and wrap Elena up in a burlap sack."

She looked around the apartment, allowing her emotions to take over. She had to do it, she had to let it all in. It was bigger than her, the pain, but she couldn't fight it anymore.

"Thank you." She paused. "I haven't been able to talk to anyone like this since... since the accident. You make me feel safe enough to try."

"Uh, losing someone you love so suddenly the trauma and the grief they are some of the tougher things you'll face in life." He faced her fully. "Having someone to talk to is the only way you'll make it through. And I haven't had anyone to do that with for a while, either."

It was dark by the time he called her again. "Katherine's got Elijah in her back pocket, she's gonna use him and the cure to make a deal with Klaus."

"Stop her."

"He already has it, Abigail. Elijah has the cure." He let out a heavy sigh. "We're on our way back."

"And Elena is coming back here willingly?"

"Of course not. We had to snap her neck," he snarled. "She killed a waitress."

"Vampires will take whatever they want. They will hurt whoever they want. And they'll do it without remorse. It's their nature."

With her arms crossed over her chest, Abigail stared at the Salvatore brothers. "Prom? That's the plan? It's been nine days and that's all that you've come up with?"

Confidently, Damon said, "It's plan A."

"And if that doesn't work," Stefan added, "then we go to Plan B: lock her up, keep her sidelined until we figure out Plan C."

The sun was beating down on her, but she didn't care. She couldn't take her eyes off of him. His face was buried in his crossed arms, making him oblivious to the way her gaze traveled along his body. Her hands practically reached out to touch his back, to trace a pattern that told a story, and since it was just them laying out in the backyard of the Gilbert house, she could.

"Caroline thinks we need to start planning Prom now."

He looked over at her. "It's July."
