Chapter 72

Lexi had been messing with me. The sandwich was fine. I mean, it wasn't extraordinary, but it wasn't that bad either.

It was after dinner now, and the sun had set, the sky was dark, and the rain had mostly subdued.

We were going to play games again tonight, but this time Lexi would be there.

She'd gone to her room to dress more warmly, and I was waiting for her, sitting at one of the picnic tables.

Things were okay now. At least they felt okay. I had my hand holding privileges and I was working up towards head-against-shoulder and hugging privileges. I was confident in my chances of a raise.

The real problem was... well, I was going to have to be honest.

I felt it more and more. I'd been waiting too long. I couldn't keep it in very much longer.

I wanted everyone to know I was in love Lexi, to stake a claim of some sort, and scream it on top of every darn building.

But before I started to play caveman, I really needed to inform my Pumpkin of that.

So she could reject me epically.

Or make my dreams come true.

Because technically, everyone already knew I was in love with her. She was the last one that needed to be informed of that fact apparently.

Finally, I spotted my Pumpkin skipping on her way to the spot where we were all gathered.

Even when it was getting dark, I could easily spot her.

She was still wearing my hoodie. For some idiotic reason, it made me feel all giddy inside.

She was looking for someone and I assumed it was me, but then her eyes fell on one of the twins and she headed straight for him.

Guess I wasn't it.

Instead of being jealous, I should be using my brain though.

This was my Pumpkin. I knew her.

This smelled like revenge.

Sure enough, she put on the hood of my hoodie on her head, and slowed her pace, like she was trying to get to the twin without getting spotted.

I kept staring at her, curious about her plan.

It took a few seconds to find out.

She reached into the front pocket of my hoodie and took out something, kinda aiming it at the twin's face. His response was automatic. He yelled in surprise, falling off from where he was sitting right on his ass on the ground.

Oh. Water gun.

Lexi burst into laughter automatically, and once Cameron was back on his feet he ran after her, less amused.

They were running around a picnic table, when I reached them and came to stand right in front of Lexi, wrapping my arms around her when she quite literally bumped into me.

I wasn't sure what I was expecting, but it was definitely not Lexi looking up at me and shooting water straight in my face.

I should have seen it coming.

She was laughing at me now and I was feeling something hard between us—I HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH IT. I reached in the front pocket of my hoodie she was wearing, happily rewarded with another water gun.
