As it turned out, letting Lex have an hour to organize things allowed us to save many more. After a few phone calls, a lot of money spent, and the influence of his family's name, he managed to have a jet from Vancouver fly to the nearest airport from us, ready to take us all the way to Portland.

A security team was waiting for us when we arrived back in the US, and they drove us straight to the hospital my abuela was in. Despite being so close to seeing her, I was feeling restless, still struggling to keep my composure. It didn't help that Lex had barely spoken to me since our argument, obviously disliking the predicament we were now in.

He wanted to protect me more than I cared for my own safety. But he also couldn't understand the bond I had with my grandmother. I had grown up with her, living int he same house as me. My personality was closer to hers than it was to anyone else. And the fact that I was responsible for her attack...

The driver pulled into the hospital's sublevel, and he stopped the car by the elevators. The second car behind us did the same, and Lex and I exited the car, escorted by four men. This was a lot, and I wasn't ready to face the many questions my parents might have about it. But it was a necessary evil, in case the snake guy was waiting for us.

A nurse at the front desk warned us that the visiting hours were almost over, which nearly broke me. We'd come all this way for nothing? Lex took care of it, and I waited as he spoke to the blonde woman for a few seconds, until she gave him a stunned nod, before pointing a finger in the direction of the ward we were looking for.

With a steady and efficient pace, we made our way toward the room MC was in, and with each step, my stomach churned with anguish. Seeing her so frail and hurt would be terrible. I instinctively reached out for Lex's hand, needing his strength. After a few seconds, he held mine back, still looking forward. People were making room for us to pass, probably intimidated by the four big men in suits.

We turned into yet another sterile and over-lit corridor, and I spotted a familiar face. Releasing Lex's hand, I sprinted my way to my father who was sitting on a bench, his back on the wall. Two of the security guys kept up with me, but I paid them no mind. The slight commotion I caused made him lift his gaze from his phone, and I witnessed his eyes light up when he saw me.

He stood just in time for me to land in his open arms, and I held him tightly against me, having missed him so much more than I'd thought. His scent was so close to my heart, the same one I'd smelled my whole childhood, it soothed my aching heart.

"It's good to have you here, peanut," he let out, holding me tighter. Lex gave orders to the men accompanying us, and they stationed themselves at strategic posts around us. "What is all this?"

"I'll tell you later. How is she doing?"

"She woke up about half an hour ago. I think she went back to sleep, though. Your mom and Ty are inside. We can't be more than two with her."
