Weight of Love

10 3 4

There's a weight in my head
"I don't love you"
Where the slope of your butt
A sunken you
In your side of the bed

There's a weight in our bed
"I don't love you"
Where the curve of your neck
The shape of you
In your side of the bed

A grimace on your lips
The mole, your jaw
Blurring, in my shock, yet
"I don't love you"
You left a weight in bed

Not shock, just acceptance
Before, in the before
We laid static in bed
Etching each self in bed
You needed space alone
So
Together.
Alone.
Forever.
Alone
Alone in our forever
"I don't love you"

Our friend said those words too
Left a decade sour love
I couldn't understand
Grimacing, I guessed you understood as
A wrinkle stretched to the mole on your jaw

We wrinkled too
When was it?
Last year?
Two?
Five.

In the dark
I touch you
The curve of your neck
The slope of your butt
The mole on your jaw
"I don't love you"
I realize it's
A sunken you

There's a weight in my head
There's a weight in our bed
Where you said
"I don't love you"

Hey. I feel good about this poem, but I also think that maybe it's missing something?

I hope you liked it though. What are you thoughts? I was inspired by a mishearing of the song, I don't know you by The Marías (definitely recommend it) which is why it's up there. I thought the part of the chorus where they sing 'I don't know you' was 'I don't love you'. Anyway, it got us this beaut so all is well!

My finals are starting this month, so this book is gonna be on hold. I'll continue it in July. Thanks for understanding. And to everyone writing exams this year, go kick ass!

I've been thinking about making a recording of me reading out my poems, and posting links for each here. What do you think?

As always, please vote, comment, and share. I really appreciate it. Thanks!
