Chapter 3

~Yemisi~

It was finally lunch break. I cannot describe that Alessia girl. She’s really mean. Like show me pity

*Flashback*
I hurried quickly for Maths class/test after filling in my details with Mr. Bello.

Alessia and I arrived at the class and met the students already having their test.

“Why are you late?” the teacher asked

“I’m sorry, as the class captain, I noticed our new student loitering about the school compound so I went to get her” Alessia lied

My mind was spinning. Me loitering. Where do I know that I want to loiter?

“It’s okay Alessia, please come inside” the teacher said

I was like me nko

As if answering my question, the teacher faced me saying “You have deprived your classmate from attending class.

You will not write this test and that is your punishment”

“But sir…” I was saying

“No buts” he said cutting me off

“Move to the disciplinary office and explain yourself” he continued

I was so confused. I didn’t even know where the disciplinary office was. I sha left and started doing what Alessia said- loitering.

“Hello Yemisi” I heard someone call breaking into my flashback

I looked up and noticed Alessia. I just rolled my eyes and turned away. I noticed the two girls she was laughing with when I tripped earlier behind her. They seemed more like minions now than friends.

“Did you beg for that?” she asked pointing at my food and smiling wickedly

“Well for all I know, borrowed food isn’t delicious so you won’t be needing it” she said pushing my food off the table

I head the plate clatter as its content poured on the floor. I felt like standing up and giving her a beautiful slap but I remembered what my mum said this morning.

I just stood up and left the cafeteria.

I was so frustrated that I almost spoilt the elevator button. I got to class, flung myself on my chair and let the tears that had been waiting silently drop.

I felt stupid for crying. What did they even do sef? Is it not food? I started wiping my tears with my hand

Someone entered the class. I quickly put my head on the desk.
“Yemisi, are you okay?” I heard the person ask

I realized it was Kayode. I raised my head up and nodded.

“I noticed what happened” he said “You sure you’re okay sha?” he asked again.

“I’m good Kayode” I said but my voice decided to fail me by sounding like someone that had been crying.

“Okay, I just thought I should bring you this Snickers Chocolate Bar just to hold your tummy” he said bringing out a chocolate bar from his pocket

I wanted to refuse but my stomach started grumbling
Kayode chuckled and put the chocolate bar in my hand and left.

Immediately he left, I unwrapped the chocolate and devoured it. Then I closed my eyes praying this day would quickly end.
