how did they get here?

"save me a dance"

lucy couldn't help but feel a blush rise to her cheeks.

"meet in my office"

grey's words sent chills down lucy's spine.

she had a drink in her hand, she was laughing with nyla and other coworkers and stealing looks at her former TO who cleaned up better than she was willing to admit.

"we can't find angela"

the hair on tim's neck stood up. his best friend had been dreaming of this day for months. she wouldn't have run. she was taken. tim was sure of it.

"jackson is gone too"

tamara's and silas's voices caused everyone's head to turn rapidly. at a party with several detectives, metro, and patrols officers, everyone wanted to rush to make things right. but that's just not how this was going to work.

tim watched his former rookie make her way over to him in a breathtaking emerald green dress. he couldn't help but let out the faintest gasp as he took her in.

"hey chen, save me a dance" tim had no idea where his sudden confidence came from.

"meet in my office"

everyone was frantic now scouring the area when john returned with a red bracelet. la fiera.

they stood inside of sergeant grey's office. detective harper, officer nolan, officer chen, sergeant bradford. there was an obvious presence missing. that was why they were there.

"what do we know?" sergeant grey asked the DA officer over the phone with his subordinates listening in closely. "we obtained surveillance footage of detective lopez and officer west leaving the venue; it is being sent over right now." the unfamiliar voice replied.

moments later, a message popped up on grey's computer screen and he opened it. the officers focused on the screen hoping for any clue of the whereabouts of their partners. they silently watched as two masked men roughly forced detective lopez in a large van. no one said a word as they watched officer west struggle against his captor and ultimately receive a fatal shot to the back before being shoved into the trunk of a sedan.

lucy's heart stopped. she didn't know if she gasped or stayed silent. her body turned absolutely numb. she wasn't even aware that she reached for the closest thing to her which happened to be the arm of her former TO.

tim didn't realize what was happening until a small hand gripped his own like it was a life force. what was going on? they were at his best friend's wedding not even an hour ago. he was supposed to watch angela have one of the best days of her life. now he had no idea where she was, and he was standing in a room with john and lucy who had just lost a member from their rookie class, a partner, and a friend... lucy's best friend.

while tim's head was already reeling of ideas that he could use to help get his best friend back to safety, he could not get over the horror of realizing that there was nothing lucy could do to save hers.

he looked down to see her hand in his which she quickly pulled away. he shook his head gently and reached for hers again to say "it's okay. i'm with you." she accepted his reassurance without hesitation. he briefly stole a look at her face, but turned away when he realized she was holding back tears. it felt like an invasion of privacy somehow. he had walked through lucy's hardest moment with her, but he knew that, no matter how many times he told her that it was okay, she hated to cry in front of others. he couldn't give her much right now, but he could giver her this.
