Boos and Cheers

A/N - I will not let people bully me C:

I need to go take out the trash

Oh. We're going out?

Wh...

"Trash...."

"What?"

"They are still booing..."

"Yeah. It is kinda trashy."

"Kinda?"

"Very trashy."

"You think so too, Mahi bhai?"

MS turned around and slung an arm over a distraught Hardik who stood at the boundary line, staring at the few stranglers loitering around after the match.

"Of course, Hardik. Booing someone is one of the lowest form of criticism I could dredge up."

"Isn't it? Then why, Mahi Bhai? I can ignore social media. I can avoid the naysayers. But booing when I can playing? It is hard."

"Feels like a knife jabbing into your ribs, doesn't it?"

"Yes. Kinda. Only worse."

MS squeezed Hardik's shoulder. "I know, kiddo. It just feels that you are at odds and wrongs with the world."

Hardik thought for a while. "It just feels trashy. It all comes back to trash."

"Trash is important too."

"We throw out thrash." Hardik deadpanned and looked over at MS; he looked so done with the entire thing.

"But one man's trash is another man's treasure and all." MS tried to sound wise, confident and as if his ears were not buzzing with uncomfortable breathlessness.

"Whose treasure is the booing?" Hardik demanded. "We are talking about the booing, aren't we?"

MS thought hard. "The booing and the entire thing in general. It is all trash."

"Ughhh! Mahi Bhai! I am so done with you!"

"Really?" MS really hoped that the tinge of hope did not show up in his voice.

"Mahi Bhai!"

"What do you want me to do, Hardik?"

"Give me a hug?"

MS complied quite readily; the booing died down to some extent.

"This helps." Hardik spoke into MS's shoulder. "I cannot hear them from here."

MS patted the boy's back and tightened his arms the slightest bit. "It's okay. You can stay for a bit."

"Just a bit?" The words came strangled.

"Well, Ishaan is taking a picture and Rohit is glaring at him. And Jaddu is making faces at you and Cherry is having a bit of a laugh."

"Let them; I don't care. I am the Captain." Hardik had further jammed his head hard against MS's shoulder.

"Want to go there kiddo?"

"What will happen, Bhai? The people will boo me more? Let them; if they feel I am trash..."

MS swiftly stepped back and immediately held unto Hardik's ear, pulling it hard. "The next time I hear something this idiotic and trashy out of your mouth, I will smack you one in front of your whole Team; you being the Captain or the Water boy, notwithstanding.

"Ouch. Sorry, Mahi Bhai. Leave, please. The people are laughing."

MS twisted Hardik's ear the slightest bit more. "Better than them booing; stop being a moron and you will not get punished."

"Okay Bhai."

"No more talks about boos and trash, okay?"

"Okay Bhai."

A harder twist. "And no more showing false attitude, okay? Keep your head down and work hard at your game. No more trashiness; I will whoop you otherwise."

"Okay Bhai."

MS narrowed his eyes. "Do you mean that or are you just saying it?"

Hardik shook his head hastily. "I mean it; pakka."

"Okay." Just for the sake of it, MS twisted his ear once more. "Remember it."

"Okay Bhai."

And they stood looking out at the scattered crowd for a few more moments before going back to their teams.

"I will keep an eye out for any of your shenanigans." Translated as "I will look out for you."

"I know, Bhai. I will behave." Translated as "I will not disappoint you"

And we draw the curtains for now.
